First ReadingTobit 2:9-14

From the Book of Tobit

9The same night I returned from burying him,and slept by the wall of my courtyard, being polluted;and my face was uncovered.10I didn’t know that there were sparrows in the wall.My eyes were openand the sparrows dropped warm dung into my eyes, and white films came over my eyes.I went to the physicians, and they didn’t help me;but Achiacharus nourished me, until I went into Elymais.

11My wife Anna wove cloth in the women’s chambers,12and sent the work back to the owners. They on their part paid her wages, and also gave her a kid.13But when it came to my house,it began to cry, and I said to her,“Where did this kid come from?Is it stolen?Give it back to the owners;for it is not lawful to eat anything that is stolen.”14But she said, “It has been given to me for a gift more than the wages.”

I didn’t believe her,and I asked her to return it to the owners;and I was ashamed of her.

But she answered and said to me,“Where are your alms and your righteous deeds?Behold, you and all your works are known.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 112:1-2, 7-8, 9

1Praise the Lord!Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in his commandments.2His offspring will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed.

7He will not be afraid of evil news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.8His heart is established. He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.

9He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

GospelMark 12:13-17

From the Gospel according to Mark

13They sent some of the Pharisees and the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words.14When they had come, they asked him, “Teacher,we know that you are honest, and don’t defer to anyone;for you aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?15Shall we give, or shall we not give?”

But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do you test me?Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.”

16They brought it.

He said to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

17Jesus answered them,“Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,and to God the things that are God’s.”

They marveled greatly at him.

EpistleLectio

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Sap 4:7-14

Lesson from the book of Wisdom

Wis. 4:7-14.

The just man, though he die early, shall be at rest. For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, nor can it be measured in terms of years. Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men, and an unsullied life, the attainment of old age. He who pleased God was loved; he who lived among sinners was transported - snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind or deceit beguile his soul; for the witchery of paltry things obscures what is right and the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind. Having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career; for his soul was pleasing to God, therefore He sped him out of the midst of wickedness.

GradualGraduale

Ps 41:2

Quemádmodum desíderat cervus ad fontes aquárum: ita desíderat ánima mea ad te, Deus.

Ps 41:3

Sitívit ánima mea ad Deum fortem vivum.

Allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 72:26

Defécit caro mea et cor meum: Deus cordis mei, et pars mea Deus in ætérnum. Allelúja.

Ps. 41:2-3.

As the deer longs for the running waters, so my soul longs for You, O God.

℣.Athirst is my soul for the strong living God. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps 72:26

My flesh and my heart waste away; God is the God of my heart and my portion forever. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.
