First ReadingExodus 12:37-42

From the Book of Exodus

37The children of Israel traveled from Rameses to Succoth,about six hundred thousand on foot who were men,in addition to children.38A mixed multitude went up also with them,with flocks, herds,and even very much livestock.39They baked unleavened cakes of the doughwhich they brought out of Egypt;for it wasn’t leavened,because they were thrust out of Egypt,and couldn’t wait,and they had not prepared any food for themselves.40Now the timethat the children of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years.41At the end of four hundred thirty years,to the day, all of the Lord’s armies went out from the land of Egypt.42It is a night to be much observed to the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt.This is that night of the Lord,to be much observed by all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 136:1 and 23-24, 10-12, 13-15

1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,for his loving kindness endures forever.23who remembered us in our low estate,for his loving kindness endures forever;24and has delivered us from our adversaries,for his loving kindness endures forever;

10to him who struck down the Egyptian firstborn,for his loving kindness endures forever;11and brought out Israel from among them,for his loving kindness endures forever;12with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm,for his loving kindness endures forever;

13to him who divided the Red Sea apart,for his loving kindness endures forever;14and made Israel to pass through the middle of it,for his loving kindness endures forever;15but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,for his loving kindness endures forever;

GospelMatthew 12:14-21

From the Gospel according to Matthew

14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him,how they might destroy him.

15Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there.Great multitudes followed him;and he healed them all,16and commanded them that they should not make him known,17that it might be fulfilledwhich was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

18“Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased.I will put my Spirit on him.He will proclaim justice to the nations.19He will not strive, nor shout,neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.20He won’t break a bruised reed.He won’t quench a smoking flax,until he leads justice to victory.21In his name, the nations will hope.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Joánnis Apóstoli

1 John 3:13-18

Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle

1 John 3:13-18.

Beloved: Do not be surprised if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. In this we have come to know His love, that He laid down His life for us; and we likewise ought to lay down our life for the brethren. He who has the goods of this world and sees his brother in need and closes his heart to him, how does the love of God abide in him? My dear children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Ps 111:1

℣.The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps do not falter. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 15:12-16

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 15:12-16

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love than this no one has, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do the things I command you. No longer do I call you servants, because the servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and have appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

O Lord, in Your strength the just man is glad; in Your victory how greatly he rejoices! You have granted him his heart’s desire.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
