First Reading2 Samuel 12:7-10, 13*

From the Second Book of Samuel

7Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.8I gave you your master’s houseand your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah;and if that would have been too little,I would have added to you many more such things.9Why have you despised the Lord’s word,to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised meand have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’

verses 11–12 are not read13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”

Nathan said to David,“The Lord also has put away your sin.You will not die.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 32:1-2, 5, 7, 11*

1Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is covered.2Blessed is the man to whom the Lord doesn’t impute iniquity,in whose spirit there is no deceit.

5I acknowledged my sin to you.I didn’t hide my iniquity.I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

7You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance.

11Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, you righteous!Shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart!

Second ReadingGalatians 2:16, 19-21*

From the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

16yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the lawbut through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christand not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law. verses 17–18 are not read19For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.20I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.That life which I now live in the flesh,I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself up for me.21I don’t reject the grace of God.For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!”

GospelLuke 7:36—8:3*

From the Gospel according to Luke

36One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him.He entered into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table.37Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knewthat he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster jar of ointment.38Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.39Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it,he said to himself,“This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived whoand what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

40Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”

He said, “Teacher, say on.”

41“A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.42When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both.Which of them therefore will love him most?”

43Simon answered, “He,I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.”

He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”44Turning to the woman,he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.45You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in,has not ceased to kiss my feet.46You didn’t anoint my head with oil,but she has anointed my feet with ointment.47Therefore I tell you,her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”48He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves,“Who is this who even forgives sins?”

50He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you.Go in peace.”

1Soon afterwards, he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of God’s Kingdom. With him were the twelve,2and certain womenwho had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities:Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out;3and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod’s steward;Susanna; and many otherswho served them from their possessions.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ps 9:5; 9:10

Deus, qui sedes super thronum, et júdicas æquitátem: esto refúgium páuperum in tribulatióne. Allelúja.

Ps. 78:9-10

Pardon our sins, O Lord; why should the nations say, Where is their God?

℣.Help us, O God our Saviour; because of the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

In illo témpore: Cum turbæ irrúerent in Jesum, ut audírent verbum Dei, et ipse stabat secus stagnum Genésareth. Et vidit duas naves stantes secus stagnum: piscatóres autem descénderant et lavábant rétia. Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
