From the Acts of the Apostles

1Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.2A certain manwho was lame from his mother’s womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the templewhich is called Beautiful,to ask gifts for the needy of thosewho entered into the temple.3Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple,he asked to receive gifts for the needy.4Peter, fastening his eyes on him, with John, said, “Look at us.”5He listened to them, expecting to receive something from them.6But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you.In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”7He took him by the right hand and raised him up.Immediately his feetand his ankle bones received strength.8Leaping up, he stood and began to walk.He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God.9All the people saw him walking and praising God.10They recognized him, that it was hewho used to sit begging for gifts for the needy at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. They were filled with wonderand amazement at what had happened to him.

GospelLuke 24:13-35

From the Gospel according to Luke

13Behold, two of them were goingthat very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem.14They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.15While they talked and questioned together,Jesus himself came near, and went with them.16But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.17He said to them, “What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?”

18One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalemwho doesn’t know the thingswhich have happened there in these days?”

19He said to them, “What things?”

They said to him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deedand word before God and all the people;20and how the chief priestsand our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.21But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel.Yes, and besides all this,it is now the third day since these things happened.22Also, certain women of our company amazed us,having arrived early at the tomb;23and when they didn’t find his body, they came sayingthat they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.24Some of us went to the tomband found it just like the women had said, but they didn’t see him.”

25He said to them, “Foolish people, and slow of heart to believe in allthat the prophets have spoken!26Didn’t the Christ have to suffer these thingsand to enter into his glory?”27Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets,he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

28They came near to the village where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.

29They urged him, saying,“Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.”

He went in to stay with them.30When he had sat down at the table with them,he took the bread and gave thanks.Breaking it, he gave it to them.31Their eyes were opened and they recognized him;then he vanished out of their sight.32They said to one another,“Weren’t our hearts burning within uswhile he spoke to us along the way,and while he opened the Scriptures to us?”33They rose up that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,34saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”35They related the things that happened along the way,and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 3:13-15; 3:17-19

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 3:13-15; 3:17-19

In that time, Peter opened his mouth and said: Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen. The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he judged he should be released. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. But the author of life you killed, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. And now, brethren, I know that you did it through ignorance, as did also your rulers. But those things which God before had shewed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. Be penitent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 21:1-14

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 21:1-14

In that time, Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. And he shewed himself after this manner. There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, who is called Didymus, and Nathanael, who was of Cana of Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter saith to them: I go a fishing. They say to him: We also come with thee. And they went forth, and entered into the ship: and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was come, Jesus stood on the shore: yet the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus therefore said to them: Children, have you any meat? They answered him: No. He saith to them: Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find. They cast therefore; and now they were not able to draw it, for the multitude of fishes. That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved, said to Peter: It is the Lord. Simon Peter, when he heard that it was the Lord, girt his coat about him, - for he was naked, - and cast himself into the sea. But the other disciples came in the ship, - for they were not far from the land, but as it were two hundred cubits, - dragging the net with fishes. As soon then as they came to land, they saw hot coals lying, and a fish laid thereon, and bread. Jesus saith to them: Bring hither of the fishes which you have now caught. Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of great fishes, one hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not broken. Jesus saith to them: Come, and dine. And none of them who were at meat, durst ask him: Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. And Jesus cometh and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish in like manner. This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to his disciples, after he was risen from the dead.

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially on this day when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
