First ReadingWisdom 7:22b—8:1

From the Book of Wisdom

22for wisdom, that is the architect of all things, taught me.For there is in her a spirit that is quick to understand, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, freely moving, clear in utterance, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving what is good, keen, unhindered,23beneficent, loving toward man, steadfast, sure, free from care, all-powerful, all-surveying,and penetrating through all spirits that are quick to understand, pure, most subtle.24For wisdom is more mobile than any motion.Yes, she pervades and penetrates all things by reason of her purity.25For she is a breath of the power of God,and a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty. Therefore nothing defiled can find entrance into her.26For she is a reflection of everlasting light,an unspotted mirror of the working of God,and an image of his goodness.27Although she is one, she has power to do all things.Remaining in herself, she renews all things. From generation to generation passing into holy souls, she makes friends of God and prophets.28For God loves nothing as much as one who dwells with wisdom.29For she is fairer than the sun,and above all the constellations of the stars. She is better than light.30For daylight yields to night, but evil does not prevail against wisdom.1But she reaches from one end to the other with full strength, and orders all things well.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:89 and 90, 91 and 130, 135 and 175

89Lord, your word is settled in heaven forever.90Your faithfulness is to all generations. You have established the earth, and it remains.

91Your laws remain to this day,for all things serve you.130The entrance of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

135Make your face shine on your servant.Teach me your statutes.175Let my soul live, that I may praise you.Let your ordinances help me.

GospelLuke 17:20-25

From the Gospel according to Luke

20Being asked by the Phariseeswhen God’s Kingdom would come,he answered them, “God’s Kingdom doesn’t come with observation;21neither will they say, ‘Look, here!’or, ‘Look, there!’for behold, God’s Kingdom is within you.”

22He said to the disciples,“The days will comewhen you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man,and you will not see it.23They will tell you, ‘Look, here!’or ‘Look, there!’Don’t go away or follow after them,24for as the lightning, when it flashes out of one part under the sky, shines to another part under the sky,so will the Son of Man be in his day.25But first, he must suffer many thingsand be rejected by this generation.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
