First ReadingExodus 17:8-13

From the Book of Exodus

8Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.9Moses said to Joshua,“Choose men for us,and go out to fight with Amalek.Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”10So Joshua did as Moses had told him,and fought with Amalek;and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.11When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.12But Moses’ hands were heavy;so they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it.Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.13Joshua defeated Amalekand his people with the edge of the sword.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 121:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8

1I will lift up my eyes to the hills.Where does my help come from?2My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

3He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.4Behold, he who keeps Israelwill neither slumber nor sleep.

5The Lord is your keeper. The Lord is your shade on your right hand.6The sun will not harm you by day,nor the moon by night.

7The Lord will keep you from all evil.He will keep your soul.8The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in,from this time forward, and forever more.

Second Reading2 Timothy 3:14—4:2

From the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy

14But you remain in the thingswhich you have learned and have been assured of,knowing from whom you have learned them.15From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptureswhich are able to make you wise for salvation through faithwhich is in Christ Jesus.16Every Scripture is God-breathedand profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness,17that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

1I command you therefore before Godand the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the livingand the dead at his appearing and his Kingdom:2preach the word;be urgent in season and out of season;reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching.

GospelLuke 18:1-8

From the Gospel according to Luke

1He also spoke a parable to themthat they must always pray and not give up,2saying, “There was a judge in a certain citywho didn’t fear God and didn’t respect man.3A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’4He wouldn’t for a while;but afterward he said to himself,‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,5yet because this widow bothers me,I will defend her,or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’”

6The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.7Won’t God avenge his chosen oneswho are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?8I tell you that he will avenge them quickly.Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios

Ephes 4:23-28

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 4:23-28

Brethren: Be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, which has been created according to God in justice and holiness of truth. Wherefore, put away lying and speak truth each one with his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down upon your anger; do not give place to the devil. He who was wont to steal, let him steal no longer; but rather let him labor, working with his hands at what is good, that he may have something to share with him who suffers need.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:1-14

At ille obmútuit. Tunc dixit rex minístris: Ligátis mánibus et pédibus ejus, míttite eum in ténebras exterióres: ibi erit fletus et stridor déntium. Multi enim sunt vocáti, pauci vero elécti.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:1-14

At that time, Jesus spoke to the chief priests and the Pharisees in parables, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a king who made a marriage feast for his son. And he sent his servants to call in those invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come. Again he sent out other servants, saying, “Tell those who are invited, behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatlings are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.” But they made light of it, and went off, one to his farm, and another to his business; and the rest laid hold of his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. But when the king heard of it, he was angry; and he sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. Then he said to his servants, “The marriage feast indeed is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy; go therefore to the crossroads, and invite to the marriage feast whomever you shall find.” And his servants went out into the roads, and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; and the marriage feast was filled with guests. Now the king went in to see the guests, and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment. And he said to him, “Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?” But he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, “Bind his hands and feet and cast him forth into the darkness outside, where there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.” For many are called, but few are chosen.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
