First ReadingSirach 48:1-14

From the Book of Sirach

1Then Elijah arose, the prophet like fire. His word burned like a torch.2He brought a famine upon them, and by his zeal made them few in number.3By the word of the Lord he shut up the heavens. He brought down fire three times.4How you were glorified, O Elijah, in your wondrous deeds!Whose glory is like yours?5You raised up a dead man from death, from Hades, by the word of the Most High.6You brought down kings to destruction, and honorable men from their sickbeds.7You heard rebuke in Sinai, and judgments of vengeance in Horeb.8You anointed kings for retribution, and prophets to succeed after you.9You were taken up in a tempest of fire,in a chariot of fiery horses.10You were recorded for reproofs in their seasons,to pacify anger, before it broke out into wrath,to turn the heart of the father to the son,and to restore the tribes of Jacob.11Blessed are those who saw you,and those who have been beautified with love;for we also shall surely live.12Elijah was wrapped in a whirlwind.Elisha was filled with his spirit. In his days he was not moved by the fear of any ruler, and no one brought him into subjection.13Nothing was too hard for him. When he was buried, his body prophesied.14As in his life he did wonders,so his works were also marvelous in death.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 97:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7

1The Lord reigns!Let the earth rejoice!Let the multitude of islands be glad!2Clouds and darkness are around him.Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3A fire goes before him,and burns up his adversaries on every side.4His lightning lights up the world. The earth sees, and trembles.

5The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.6The heavens declare his righteousness. All the peoples have seen his glory.

7Let all them be shamed who serve engraved images, who boast in their idols.Worship him, all you gods!

GospelMatthew 6:7-15

From the Gospel according to Matthew

7In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do;for they thinkthat they will be heard for their much speaking.8Therefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need before you ask him.9Pray like this:

“‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.10Let your Kingdom come.Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.11Give us today our daily bread.12Forgive us our debts,as we also forgive our debtors.13Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 9:5; 9:10

Deus, qui sedes super thronum, et júdicas æquitátem: esto refúgium páuperum in tribulatióne. Allelúja.

Ps. 78:9-10

Pardon our sins, O Lord; why should the nations say, Where is their God?

℣.Help us, O God our Saviour; because of the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps. 9:5; 9:10

O God, seated on Your throne, judging justly: be a stronghold for the oppressed in times of distress. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

In illo témpore: Cum turbæ irrúerent in Jesum, ut audírent verbum Dei, et ipse stabat secus stagnum Genésareth. Et vidit duas naves stantes secus stagnum: piscatóres autem descénderant et lavábant rétia. Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
