Solemnity · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle A · Psalter Week 4

First ReadingRevelation 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab

From the Book of Revelation

19God’s temple that is in heaven was opened, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant was seen in his temple.Lightnings, sounds, thunders, an earthquake, and great hail followed.

1A great sign was seen in heaven:a woman clothed with the sun,and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.2She was with child. She cried out in pain, laboring to give birth.

3Another sign was seen in heaven.Behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven crowns.4His tail drew one third of the stars of the sky,and threw them to the earth. The dragon stood before the womanwho was about to give birth,so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.5She gave birth to a son,a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron. Her child was caught up to God and to his throne.6The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God,that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days.

verses 7–9 are not read10I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, the power, and the Kingdom of our God,and the authority of his Christ has come;for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 45:10, 11, 12, 16

10Kings’ daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

11Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear.Forget your own people, and also your father’s house.

12So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord.

16With gladness and rejoicing they shall be led. They shall enter into the king’s palace.

Second Reading1 Corinthians 15:20-27

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

20But now Christ has been raised from the dead.He became the first fruit of those who are asleep.21For since death came by man,the resurrection of the dead also came by man.22For as in Adam all die,so also in Christ all will be made alive.23But each in his own order:Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ’s at his coming.24Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to God the Father, when he will have abolished all ruleand all authority and power.25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.26The last enemy that will be abolished is death.27For, “He put all things in subjection under his feet.”But when he says, “All things are put in subjection”,it is evident that he is exceptedwho subjected all things to him.

GospelLuke 1:39-56

From the Gospel according to Luke

39Mary arose in those daysand went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah,40and entered into the house of Zachariasand greeted Elizabeth.41When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb;and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.42She called out with a loud voice and said,“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!43Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?44For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!45Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the thingswhich have been spoken to her from the Lord!”

46Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord.47My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,48for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.49For he who is mighty has done great things for me.Holy is his name.50His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him.51He has shown strength with his arm.He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.52He has put down princes from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly.53He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.54He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy,55as he spoke to our fathers,to Abraham and his offspring forever.”

56Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 3:4-9

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor. 3:4-9

Brethren: Such is the assurance I have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:23-37

At ille dixit: Qui fecit misericórdiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus: Vade, et tu fac simíliter.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:23-37

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

Exod 32:11 32:13; 32:14

Moses prayed in the sight of the Lord his God and said, Why, O Lord, is Your indignation enkindled against Your people? Let the anger of Your mind cease; remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom You swore to give a land flowing with milk and honey. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which He had spoken of doing against His people.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
