First ReadingEzekiel 17:22-24

From the Book of Ezekiel

22“The Lord GOD says:‘I will also take some of the lofty top of the cedar, and will plant it.I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one,and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.23I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel;and it will produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a good cedar.Birds of every kind will dwell in the shade of its branches.24All the trees of the field will know that I,the Lord, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree flourish.

“‘I, the Lord, have spoken and have done it.’”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16

2It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord,to sing praises to your name, Most High,3to proclaim your loving kindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night,

13The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree.He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.14They are planted in the Lord’s house. They will flourish in our God’s courts.

15They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green,16to show that the Lord is upright. He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Second Reading2 Corinthians 5:6-10

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

6Therefore we are always confident and knowthat while we are at home in the body,we are absent from the Lord;7for we walk by faith, not by sight.8We are courageous,I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the bodyand to be at home with the Lord.9Therefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent,to be well pleasing to him.10For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christthat each one may receive the things in the body according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

GospelMark 4:26-34

From the Gospel according to Mark

26He said, “God’s Kingdom is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,27and should sleep and rise night and day,and the seed should spring up and grow, though he doesn’t know how.28For the earth bears fruit by itself:first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.29But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

30He said, “How will we liken God’s Kingdom?Or with what parable will we illustrate it?31It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seedsthat are on the earth,32yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches,so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

33With many such parables he spoke the word to them,as they were able to hear it.34Without a parable he didn’t speak to them;but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GradualGraduale

Ps 78:9; 78:10

Ps 9:5; 9:10

Deus, qui sedes super thronum, et júdicas æquitátem: esto refúgium páuperum in tribulatióne. Allelúja.

Ps. 78:9-10

Pardon our sins, O Lord; why should the nations say, Where is their God?

℣.Help us, O God our Saviour; because of the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps. 9:5; 9:10

O God, seated on Your throne, judging justly: be a stronghold for the oppressed in times of distress. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
