1Have mercy upon us, O Lord the God of all, and look at us with favor; verses 2–3 are not read4As you showed your holiness in us before them,so be magnified in them before us.5Let them know you, as we also have known you, that there is no God but only you, O God. verses 6–9 are not read10Crush the heads of the rulers of the enemieswho say, “There is no one but ourselves.”11Gather all the tribes of Jacob together, and take them for your inheritance, as from the beginning.12O Lord, have mercy upon the people that is called by your name, and upon Israel, whom you likened to a firstborn.13Have compassion upon the city of your sanctuary,Jerusalem, the place of your rest.14Fill Zion. Exalt your oraclesand fill your people with your glory.15Give testimony to those who were your creatures in the beginning, and fulfill the prophecies that have been spoken in your name.16Reward those who wait for you,and men will put their trust in your prophets.17Listen, O Lord, to the prayer of your servants, according to the blessing of Aaron concerning your people;and all those who are on the earth will knowthat you are the Lord, the eternal God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 79:8, 9, 11, 13

8Don’t hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us.Let your tender mercies speedily meet us,for we are in desperate need.

9Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name.Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake.

11Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you.According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death.

13So we, your people and sheep of your pasture, will give you thanks forever. We will praise you forever, to all generations.

GospelMark 10:32-45

From the Gospel according to Mark

32They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem;and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed;and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the thingsthat were going to happen to him.33“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.34They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him.On the third day he will rise again.”

35James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying,“Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask.”

36He said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”

37They said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit,one at your right handand one at your left hand, in your glory.”

38But Jesus said to them,“You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptismthat I am baptized with?”

39They said to him, “We are able.”

Jesus said to them,“You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptismthat I am baptized with;40but to sit at my right handand at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared.”

41When the ten heard it,they began to be indignant toward James and John.

42Jesus summoned them and said to them,“You know that theywho are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.43But it shall not be so among you,but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant.44Whoever of you wants to become first among you shall be bondservant of all.45For the Son of Man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Joánni Apóstoli

1 Joannnes 4:8-21

Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle

1 John 4:8-21

Dearly beloved: He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us. In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit. And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him. In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world. Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity. Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us. If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how can he love God, whom he seeth not? And this commandment we have from God, that he, who loveth God, love also his brother.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 6:36-42

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 6:36-42

In that time Jesus said to his disciples: Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure and pressed down and shaken together and running over shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you shall mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. And he spoke also to them a similitude: Can the blind lead the blind? do they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one shall be perfect, if he be as his master. And why seest thou the mote in thy brother's eye: but the beam that is in thy own eye thou considerest not? Or how canst thou say to thy brother: Brother, let me pull the mote out of thy eye, when thou thyself seest not the beam in thy own eye? Hypocrite, cast first the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to take out the mote from thy brother's eye.
