First ReadingJob 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17

From the Book of Job

1Then Job answered the Lord:

2“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.3You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’therefore I have uttered that which I didn’t understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know. verse 4 is not read5I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,but now my eye sees you.6Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

verses 7–11 are not read12So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.13He had also seven sons and three daughters.14He called the name of the first, Jemimah;and the name of the second, Keziah;and the name of the third, Keren Happuch.15In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job.Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.16After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons,to four generations.17So Job died, being old and full of days.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:66, 71, 75, 91, 125, 130

66Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

71It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.

75Lord, I know that your judgments are righteous, that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

91Your laws remain to this day,for all things serve you.

125I am your servant. Give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies.

130The entrance of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

GospelLuke 10:17-24

From the Gospel according to Luke

17The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

18He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven.19Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.Nothing will in any way hurt you.20Nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you,but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

21In that same hour,Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you,O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children.Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”

22Turning to the disciples,he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is,except the Father, and who the Father is,except the Son,and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”

23Turning to the disciples,he said privately,“Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see,24for I tell you that many prophetsand kings desired to see the things which you see,and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.”

Eccli 24:14-16

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Ecclus 24:14-16

Before all ages, in the beginning, He created me, and through all ages I shall not cease to be. In the holy Tent I ministered before Him, and in Sion I fixed my abode. Thus in the chosen city He has given me rest, in Jerusalem is my domain. I have struck root among the glorious people, in the portion of my God, His heritage, and my abode is in the full assembly of Saints.

Blessed Virgin

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should praise and bless, and proclaim Thee, in the veneratióne of the Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin: Who also conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, and the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:
