First ReadingIsaiah 45:1, 4-6

From the Book of Isaiah

1The Lord says to his anointed,to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held to subdue nations before himand strip kings of their armor,to open the doors before him,and the gates shall not be shut:

verses 2–3 are not read4For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel my chosen,I have called you by your name.I have given you a title, though you have not known me.5I am the Lord, and there is no one else.Besides me, there is no God.I will strengthen you, though you have not known me,6that they may know from the rising of the sun,and from the west, that there is no one besides me.I am the Lord, and there is no one else.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:1, 3, 4-5, 7-8, 9-10

1Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.

4For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised! He is to be feared above all gods.5For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

7Ascribe to the Lord, you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.8Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name.Bring an offering, and come into his courts.

9Worship the Lord in holy array.Tremble before him, all the earth.10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.

GospelMatthew 22:15-21

From the Gospel according to Matthew

15Then the Pharisees wentand took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.16They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth,no matter whom you teach;for you aren’t partial to anyone.17Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?19Show me the tax money.”

They brought to him a denarius.

20He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

21They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

Then he said to them,“Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,and to God the things that are God’s.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Philippénses

Phil 1:6-11

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Philippians

Phil 1:6-11

Brethren: We are confident in the Lord Jesus that He Who has begun a good work in you will bring it to perfection until the day of Christ Jesus. And I have the right to feel so about you all, because I have you in my heart, all of you, alike in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, as sharers in my joy. For God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the better things, that you may be upright and without offense unto the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:15-21

Cógnita autem Jesus nequítia eórum, ait: Quid me tentátis, hypócritæ? Osténdite mihi numísma census. At illi obtulérunt ei denárium.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:15-21

At that time, the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might trap Jesus in His talk. And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that You are truthful, and that You teach the way of God in truth, and that You care naught for any man; for You do not regard the person of men. Tell us, therefore, what do You think: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the coin of the tribute. So they offered Him a denarius. Then Jesus said to them, Whose are this image and the inscription? They said to Him, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Render, therefore, to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
