First ReadingSirach 5:1-8

From the Book of Sirach

1Don’t set your heart upon your goods.Don’t say, “They are sufficient for me.”2Don’t follow your own mind and your strengthto walk in the desires of your heart.3Don’t say, “Who will have dominion over me?”for the Lord will surely take vengeance on you.4Don’t say, “I sinned, and what happened to me?”for the Lord is patient.5Don’t be so confident of atonementthat you add sin upon sins.6Don’t say, “His compassion is great. He will be pacified for the multitude of my sins,”for mercy and wrath are with him,and his indignation will rest on sinners.7Don’t wait to turn to the Lord.Don’t put off from day to day;for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will come on you,and you will perish in the time of vengeance.8Don’t set your heart upon unrighteous gains, for you will profit nothing in the day of calamity.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 1:1-4, 6

1Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;2but his delight is in the Lord’s law.On his law he meditates day and night.3He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither.Whatever he does shall prosper.4The wicked are not so,but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

6For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

GospelMark 9:41-50

From the Gospel according to Mark

41For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my namebecause you are Christ’s,most certainly I tell you,he will in no way lose his reward.

42“Whoever will cause one of these little oneswho believe in me to stumble,it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.43If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off.It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire,45If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off.It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that will never be quenched—47If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out.It is better for you to enter into God’s Kingdom with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire,48‘where their worm doesn’t die,and the fire is not quenched.’49For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.50Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it?Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Act 1, 15-26.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 1:15-26

In those days, Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren - now the number of persons met together was about a hundred and twenty - and he said, Brethren, the Scripture must be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit declared before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the guide of those who arrested Jesus; inasmuch as he had been numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. And he indeed bought a field with the price of his iniquity and, being hanged, burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that the field came to be called in their language Haceldama, that is, the Field of Blood. For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let their habitation become desolate and let there be none to dwell in it.’ And, ‘His ministry let another take.’ Therefore, of these men who have been in our company all the time that the Lord Jesus moved among us, from John’s baptism until the day that He was taken up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of His Resurrection.” And they put forward two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away to go to his own place. And they drew lots between them, and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 11:25-30

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 11:25-30

At that time, Jesus spoke and said, I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You hid these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, for such was Your good pleasure. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and him to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.

of Apostles

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, to entreat Thee humbly, O Lord, that Thou wouldst not desert Thy flock, O everlasting Shepherd, but, through Thy blessed Apostles, wouldst keep it under Thy constant protection; that it may be governed by those same rulers, whom as vicars of Thy work, Thou didst set over it to be its pastors. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
