First ReadingActs 1:12-14

From the Acts of the Apostles

12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem,a Sabbath day’s journey away.13When they had come in,they went up into the upper room where they were staying, that is Peter, John,James, Andrew, Philip,Thomas, Bartholomew,Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus,Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.14All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 27:1, 4, 7-8

1The Lord is my light and my salvation.Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life.Of whom shall I be afraid?

4One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after:that I may dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,to see the Lord’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

7Hear, Lord, when I cry with my voice.Have mercy also on me, and answer me.8When you said, “Seek my face,”my heart said to you, “I will seek your face, Lord.”

Second Reading1 Peter 4:13-16

From the First Letter of Peter

13But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of gloryand of God rests on you.On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.15But let none of you suffer as a murderer,or a thief, or an evil doer,or a meddler in other men’s matters.16But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed;but let him glorify God in this matter.

GospelJohn 17:1-11a

From the Gospel according to John

1Jesus said these things, then lifting up his eyes to heaven,he said, “Father, the time has come.Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you;2even as you gave him authority over all flesh,so he will give eternal life to allwhom you have given him.3This is eternal life, that they should know you,the only true God,and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.4I glorified you on the earth.I have accomplished the workwhich you have given me to do.5Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glorywhich I had with you before the world existed.

6“I revealed your name to the peoplewhom you have given me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me.They have kept your word.7Now they have knownthat all things whatever you have given me are from you,8for the wordswhich you have given me I have given to them;and they received them, and knew for sure that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me.9I pray for them.I don’t pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me,for they are yours.10All things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.11I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to you.Holy Father, keep them through your namewhich you have given me,that they may be one, even as we are.
