Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest

Feast · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle C · Psalter Week 4

First ReadingIsaiah 6:1-4, 8

From the Book of Isaiah

or Hebrews 2:10-18

1In the year that King Uzziah died,I saw the Lord sitting on a throne,high and lifted up;and his train filled the temple.2Above him stood the seraphim.Each one had six wings.With two he covered his face.With two he covered his feet.With two he flew.3One called to another, and said,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Armies!The whole earth is full of his glory!”

4The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called,and the house was filled with smoke.

verses 5–7 are not read8I heard the Lord’s voice,saying, “Whom shall I send,and who will go for us?”

Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 23:2-3, 5, 6

2He makes me lie down in green pastures.He leads me beside still waters.3He restores my soul.He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

5You prepare a table before mein the presence of my enemies.You anoint my head with oil.My cup runs over.

6Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life,and I will dwell in the Lord’s house forever.

GospelJohn 17:1-2, 9, 14-26

From the Gospel according to John

1Jesus said these things,then lifting up his eyes to heaven,he said, “Father, the time has come.Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you;2even as you gave him authority over all flesh,so he will give eternal life to allwhom you have given him. verses 3–8 are not read9I pray for them.I don’t pray for the world,but for those whom you have given me,for they are yours. verses 10–13 are not read14I have given them your word.The world hated them because they are not of the world,even as I am not of the world.15I pray not that you would take them from the world,but that you would keep them from the evil one.16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.17Sanctify them in your truth.Your word is truth.18As you sent me into the world,even so I have sent them into the world.19For their sakes I sanctify myself,that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

20“Not for these only do I pray,but for those alsowho will believe in me through their word,21that they may all be one;even as you, Father,are in me, and I in you,that they also may be one in us;that the world may believe that you sent me.22The glory which you have given me,I have given to them,that they may be one,even as we are one,23I in them, and you in me,that they may be perfected into one,that the world may know that you sent me and loved them,even as you loved me.24Father, I desire that they alsowhom you have given me be with me where I am,that they may see my glory which you have given me,for you loved me before the foundation of the world.25Righteous Father, the world hasn’t known you, but I knew you;and these knew that you sent me.26I made known to them your name, and will make it known;that the love withwhich you loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:5-8

In diébus illis: Philíppus descéndens in civitátem Samaríæ, prædicábat illis Christum. Intendébant autem turbæ his, quæ a Philíppo dicebántur, unanímiter audiéntes et vidéntes signa, quæ faciébat. Multi enim eórum, qui habébant spíritus immúndos, clamántes voce magna, exíbant. Multi autem paralýtici et claudi curáti sunt. Factum est ergo gáudium magnum in illa civitáte.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:5-8

In those days, Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached the Christ to them. And the crowds with one accord gave heed to what was said by Philip, listening to him and seeing the miracles that he worked. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, went out of many possessed persons, and many paralytics and cripples were cured. So there was great joy in that city.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 9:1-6

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 9:1-6

At that time, having summoned the twelve apostles, Jesus gave them power and authority over all the devils, and to cure diseases. And He sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and do not depart from thence. And whosoever will not receive you - go forth from that town, and shake off even the dust from your feet for a witness against them. And going forth, they went about from village to village, preaching the gospel and working cures everywhere.

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: through Christ our Lord. Wherefore the whole world doth rejoice with overflowing joy; and the heavenly Hosts also and the angelic Powers sing together the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
