First ReadingJudges 11:29-39a

From the Book of Judges

29Then the Lord’s Spirit came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.

30Jephthah vowed a vow to the Lord, and said, “If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,31then it shall be,that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet mewhen I return in peace from the children of Ammon,it shall be the Lord’s,and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.”

32So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them;and the Lord delivered them into his hand.33He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house;and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child.Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.35When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low,and you are one of those who trouble me;for I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I can’t go back.”

36She said to him, “My father, you have opened your mouth to the Lord;do to me according to thatwhich has proceeded out of your mouth, because the Lord has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the children of Ammon.”37Then she said to her father,“Let this thing be done for me.Leave me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and bewail my virginity,I and my companions.”

38He said, “Go.”He sent her away for two months;and she departed, she and her companions, and mourned her virginity on the mountains.39At the end of two months, she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed. She was a virgin. It became a custom in Israel

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 40:5, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10

5Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, and doesn’t respect the proud, nor such as turn away to lies.

7Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.8Then I said, “Behold, I have come.

8It is written about me in the book in the scroll.9I delight to do your will, my God.Yes, your law is within my heart.”

10I have proclaimed glad news of righteousness in the great assembly.Behold, I will not seal my lips, Lord, you know.

GospelMatthew 22:1-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1Jesus answeredand spoke to them again in parables, saying,2“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son,3and sent out his servants to call thosewho were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.4Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited,“Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready.Come to the wedding feast!”’5But they made light of it,and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;6and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.7When the king heard that,he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8“Then he said to his servants,‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.9Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’10Those servants went out into the highwaysand gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11“But when the king came in to see the guests,he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,12and he said to him,‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’He was speechless.13Then the king said to the servants,‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’14For many are called, but few chosen.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios.

1 Cor 15:1-10

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 15:1-10

Brethren: I recall to your minds the Gospel that I preached to you, which also you received, wherein also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold it fast, as I preached it to you - unless you have believed to no purpose. For I delivered to you first of all, what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, and after that to the Eleven. Then He was seen by more than five hundred brethren at one time, many of whom are with us still, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by the Apostles. And last of all, as by one born out of due time, He was seen also by me. For I am the least of the Apostles, and am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace in me has not been fruitless.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum.

Marc 7:31-37

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 7:31-37

At that time, Jesus departing from the district of Tyre came by way of Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the district of Decapolis. And they brought to Him one deaf and dumb, and entreated Him to lay His hand upon him. And taking him aside from the crowd, He put His fingers into the man’s ears, and spitting, He touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, Ephpheta, that is, Be opened. And his ears were at once opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak correctly. And He charged them to tell no one. But the more He charged them, so much the more did they continue to publish it. And so much the more did they wonder, saying, He has done all things well. He has made both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.
