First ReadingGenesis 9:1-13*

From the Book of Genesis

1God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.2The fear of youand the dread of you will be on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the sky.Everything that moves along the ground, and all the fish of the sea,are delivered into your hand.3Every moving thing that lives will be food for you.As I gave you the green herb,I have given everything to you.4But flesh with its life, that is, its blood, you shall not eat.5I will surely require accounting for your life’s blood. At the hand of every animal I will require it.At the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s brother,I will require the life of man.6Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man,for God made man in his own image.7Be fruitful and multiply.Increase abundantly on the earth, and multiply in it.”

8God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,9“As for me, behold,I establish my covenant with you,and with your offspring after you,10and with every living creature that is with you:the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you,of all that go out of the ship, even every animal of the earth.11I will establish my covenant with you:All flesh will not be cut off any more by the waters of the flood. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”12God said, “This is the token of the covenantwhich I make between meand you and every living creature that is with you,for perpetual generations:13I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 102:16-18, 19 and 21 and 20, 29 and 23 and 22*

16So the nations will fear the Lord’s name, all the kings of the earth your glory.17For the Lord has built up Zion.He has appeared in his glory.18He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.

19This will be written for the generation to come.A people which will be created will praise the Lord,21to hear the groans of the prisoner,to free those who are condemned to death,20for he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, the Lord saw the earth,

29The children of your servants will continue.Their offspring will be established before you.”23when the peoples are gathered together, the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.22that men may declare the Lord’s name in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,

GospelMark 8:27-33

From the Gospel according to Mark

27Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples,“Who do men say that I am?”

28They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets.”

29He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

30He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.31He began to teach themthat the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.32He spoke to them openly.Peter took him and began to rebuke him.33But he, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said,“Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God,but the things of men.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Brethren: Do you not know that those who run in a race, all indeed run, but one receives the prize? So run as to obtain it. And everyone in a contest abstains from all things - and they indeed to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable. I, therefore, so run as not without a purpose; I so fight as not beating the air; but I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps after preaching to others I myself should be rejected. For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, all were baptized in Moses, in the cloud and in the sea. And all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ. Yet with most of them God was not well pleased.

Ps 9:10-11; 9:19-20

Adjútor in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne: sperent in te, qui novérunt te: quóniam non derelínquis quæréntes te, Dómine,

℣.Quóniam non in finem oblívio erit páuperis: patiéntia páuperum non períbit in ætérnum: exsúrge, Dómine, non præváleat homo.

Ps 9:10-11; 9:19-20

A helper in due time in tribulation. Let them trust in thee who know thy name: for thou hast not forsaken them that seek thee, O Lord.

For the poor man shall not be forgotten to the end: the patience of the poor shall not perish for ever. Arise, O Lord, let not man be strengthened.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 20:1-16

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 20:1-16

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. And having agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And about the third hour, he went out and saw others standing in the market place idle; and he said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard, and I will give you whatever is just.’ So they went. And again he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and did as before. But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing about and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ They said to him, ‘Because no man has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard.’ But when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers, and pay them their wages, beginning from the last even to the first.’ Now when they of the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius. And when the first in their term came, they thought that they would receive more; but they also received each his denarius. And on receiving it, they began to murmur against the householder, saying, ‘These last have worked a single hour, and you have put them on a level with us, who have borne the burden of the day’s heat.’ But answering one of them, he said, ‘Friend, I do you no injustice; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go; I choose to give to this last even as to you. Have I not a right to do what I choose? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ Even so the last shall be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen.
