First Reading1 Thessalonians 2:2b-8

From the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

2but having suffered before and been shamefully treated,as you know, at Philippi,we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.3For our exhortation is not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.4But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.5For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery,as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),6nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others),when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.7But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

8Even so, affectionately longing for you,we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 7-8a, 10

1Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord, all the earth.2Sing to the Lord!

2Bless his name!Proclaim his salvation from day to day!3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.

7Ascribe to the Lord, you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.8Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name.Bring an offering, and come into his courts.

10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.

GospelMatthew 9:35-38

From the Gospel according to Matthew

35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagoguesand preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every diseaseand every sickness among the people.36But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion for thembecause they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few.38Pray thereforethat the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”
