First ReadingSirach 51:12cd-20

From the Book of Sirach

12You saved me from destructionand delivered me from the evil time. Therefore I will give thanks and praise to you,and bless the name of the Lord.13When I was yet young, before I went abroad,I sought wisdom openly in my prayer.14Before the temple I asked for her.I will seek her out even to the end.15From the first flower to the ripening grape my heart delighted in her.My foot walked in uprightness. From my youth I followed her steps.16I inclined my ear a little, and received her,and found for myself much instruction.17I profited in her.I will give glory to him who gives me wisdom.18For I determined to practice her.I was zealous for that which is good.I will never be put to shame.19My soul has wrestled with her.In my conduct I was exact.I spread out my hands to the sky above, and bewailed my ignorances of her.20I directed my soul to her.In purity I found her.I got myself a heart joined with her from the beginning. Therefore I won’t be forsaken.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11

8The Lord’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. The Lord’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

9The Lord’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. The Lord’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

10The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The Lord’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

11They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

GospelMark 11:27-33

From the Gospel according to Mark

27They came again to Jerusalem, and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to him,28and they began saying to him,“By what authority do you do these things?Or who gave you this authority to do these things?”

29Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question.Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.30The baptism of John—was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.”

31They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven;’he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’32If we should say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet.33They answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

Jesus said to them,“Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Thessalonicénses

1 Thess 2:2-9

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians

1 Thess 2:2-9

Brethren: We had confidence in our God to preach to you the gospel of God amid much anxiety. For our exhortation was not from error, nor from impure motives, nor from guile. But as approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak not as pleasing men, but God, who proves our hearts. For at no time have we used words of flattery, as you know, nor any pretext for avarice, God is witness, nor have we sought glory from me, neither from you nor from others. Although as the apostles of Christ we could have claimed a position of honor among you, still while in your midst we were as children: as if a nurse were cherishing her own children, so we in our love for you would gladly have imparted to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own souls; because you had become most dear to us. For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil. We worked night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you while we preached to you the gospel of God.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
