First ReadingGenesis 13:2, 5-18

From the Book of Genesis

2Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. verses 3–4 are not read5Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, herds, and tents.6The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together;for their possessions were so greatthat they couldn’t live together.7There was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestockand the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanitesand the Perizzites lived in the land at that time.8Abram said to Lot,“Please, let there be no strife between you and me,and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen;for we are relatives.9Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me.If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right.Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”

10Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt,as you go to Zoar.11So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself.Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves from one another.12Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wickedand sinners against the Lord.

14The Lord said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him,“Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,15for I will give all the land which you see to youand to your offspring forever.16I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth,so that if a man can count the dust of the earth, then your offspring may also be counted.17Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its width;for I will give it to you.”

18Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 15:2-3a, 3bc-4ab, 5

2He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;3he who doesn’t slander with his tongue,

3nor does evil to his friend,nor casts slurs against his fellow man;4in whose eyes a vile man is despised,but who honors those who fear the Lord;he who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn’t change;

5he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

GospelMatthew 7:6, 12-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

6“Don’t give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. verses 7–11 are not read12Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you,you shall also do to them;for this is the law and the prophets.

13“Enter in by the narrow gate;for the gate is wide and the way is broadthat leads to destruction, and there are many who enter in by it.14How narrow is the gateand the way is restricted that leads to life! There are few who find it.

Protéctor in te sperántium, Deus, sine quo nihil est válidum, nihil sanctum: multíplica super nos misericórdiam tuam; ut, te rectóre, te duce, sic transeámus per bona temporália, ut non amittámus ætérna.

Per Dominum…

O God, protector of all who hope in You, without Whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, increase Your mercy toward us, that, with Your guidance and direction we may so pass through the things of this temporal life as not to lose those of life eternal.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Caríssimi: Humiliámini sub poténti manu Dei, ut vos exáltet in témpore visitatiónis: omnem sollicitúdinem vestram projiciéntes in eum, quóniam ipsi cura est de vobis. Sóbrii estote et vigiláte: quia adversárius vester diábolus tamquam leo rúgiens circuit, quærens, quem dévoret: cui resístite fortes in fide: sciéntes eándem passiónem ei, quæ in mundo est, vestræ fraternitáti fíeri. Deus autem omnis grátiæ, qui vocávit nos in ætérnam suam glóriam in Christo Jesu, módicum passos ipse perfíciet, confirmábit solidabítque. Ipsi glória et impérium in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Beloved: Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in the time of visitation; cast all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be sober, be watchful! For your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering befalls your brethren all over the world. But the God of all grace, Who has called us unto His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself, after we have suffered a little while, perfect, strengthen and establish us. To Him is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Ps. 7:12

℣.When I called upon the Lord, He heard my voice from those who war against me. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 15:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 15:1-10

At that time, the publicans and sinners were drawing near to Him to listen to Him. And the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. But He spoke to them this parable, saying, What man of you having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it upon his shoulders rejoicing. And on coming home he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’ I say to you that, even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more then over ninety-nine just who have no need of repentance. Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I had lost.’ Even so, I say to you, there will be joy among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
