First ReadingActs 14:5-18

From the Acts of the Apostles

5When some of both the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, made a violent attempt to mistreat and stone them,6they became aware of itand fled to the cities of Lycaonia,Lystra, Derbe, and the surrounding region.7There they preached the Good News.

8At Lystra a certain man sat, impotent in his feet,a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked.9He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him and seeingthat he had faith to be made whole,10said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet!”He leaped up and walked.11When the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the language of Lycaonia,“The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!”12They called Barnabas “Jupiter”,and Paul “Mercury”,because he was the chief speaker.13The priest of Jupiter, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have made a sacrifice along with the multitudes.

14But when the apostles,Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their clothesand sprang into the multitude, crying out,15“Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of the same nature as you,and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God,who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;16who in the generations gone by allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.17Yet he didn’t leave himself without witness,in that he did good and gave you rains from the skyand fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

18Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 115:1-2, 3-4, 15-16

1Not to us, Lord, not to us,but to your name give glory, for your loving kindness, and for your truth’s sake.2Why should the nations say,“Where is their God, now?”

3But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he pleases.4Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

15Blessed are you by the Lord, who made heaven and earth.16The heavens are the Lord’s heavens, but he has given the earth to the children of men.

GospelJohn 14:21-26

From the Gospel according to John

21One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me.One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him,and will reveal myself to him.”

22Judas (not Iscariot) said to him,“Lord, what has happenedthat you are about to reveal yourself to us,and not to the world?”

23Jesus answered him,“If a man loves me,he will keep my word.My Father will love him,and we will come to him and make our home with him.24He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word which you hear isn’t mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

25“I have said these things to youwhile still living with you.26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
