First ReadingActs 7:51—8:1a

From the Acts of the Apostles

51“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.52Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed thosewho foretold the coming of the Righteous One,of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.53You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

54Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.55But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heavenand saw the glory of God,and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,56and said, “Behold,I see the heavens openedand the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

57But they cried out with a loud voiceand stopped their ears, then rushed at him with one accord.58They threw him out of the city and stoned him.The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.59They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”60He kneeled down and cried with a loud voice,“Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!”When he had said this, he fell asleep.

1Saul was consenting to his death.A great persecution arose against the assemblywhich was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 31:3cd-4, 6 and 7b and 8a, 17 and 21ab

3Bow down your ear to me.Deliver me speedily.Be to me a strong rock,a house of defense to save me.4For you are my rock and my fortress, therefore for your name’s sake lead me and guide me.

6Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, Lord, God of truth.7I hate those who regard lying vanities, but I trust in the Lord.8I will be glad and rejoice in your loving kindness, for you have seen my affliction. You have known my soul in adversities.

17Make your face to shine on your servant.Save me in your loving kindness.21In the shelter of your presence you will hide them from the plotting of man.You will keep them secretly in a dwelling away from the strife of tongues.

GospelJohn 6:30-35

From the Gospel according to John

30They said therefore to him,“What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”

32Jesus therefore said to them,“Most certainly, I tell you,it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.33For the bread of God is thatwhich comes down out of heavenand gives life to the world.”

34They said therefore to him,“Lord, always give us this bread.”

35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life.Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corinthios

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Brothers: Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void. For the word of the cross, to them indeed that perish, is foolishness; but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God. For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the prudence of the prudent I will reject. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe. For both the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumbling-block, and unto the Gentiles foolishness: But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Allelúja, allelúja.

2 Cor 5:15

2 Cor 5:15

And Christ died for all; that they also who live, may not now live to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rose again. Alleluja.

Rom 8:17

And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. Alleluja.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
