First ReadingExodus 2:1-15a

From the Book of Exodus

1A man of the house of Levi wentand took a daughter of Levi as his wife.2The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.3When she could no longer hide him,she took a papyrus basket for him,and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it,and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.4His sister stood far off,to see what would be done to him.5Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.6She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him,and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

7Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter,“Should I goand call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

8Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.”

The young woman went and called the child’s mother.9Pharaoh’s daughter said to her,“Take this child away, and nurse him for me,and I will give you your wages.”

The woman took the child, and nursed him.10The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son.She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

11In those days, when Moses had grown up,he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.12He looked this way and that way,and when he saw that there was no one,he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

13He went out the second day,and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong,“Why do you strike your fellow?”

14He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us?Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?”

Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”15Now when Pharaoh heard this thing,he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 69:3, 14, 30-31, 33-34

3I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold.I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

14But as for me, my prayer is to you, Lord, in an acceptable time.God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation.

30But I am in pain and distress.Let your salvation, God, protect me.31I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

33The humble have seen it, and are glad. You who seek after God, let your heart live.34For the Lord hears the needy, and doesn’t despise his captive people.

GospelMatthew 11:20-24

From the Gospel according to Matthew

20Then he began to denounce the cities inwhich most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.21“Woe to you, Chorazin!Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyreand Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.22But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyreand Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.23You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodomwhich were done in you,it would have remained until today.24But I tell youthat it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:19-23

Quem ergo fructum habuístis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubéscitis? Nam finis illórum mors est. Nunc vero liberáti a peccáto, servi autem facti Deo, habétis fructum vestrum in sanctificatiónem, finem vero vitam ætérnam. Stipéndia enim peccáti mors. Grátia autem Dei vita ætérna, in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:19-23

Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now set free from sin and become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 7:15-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 7:15-21

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven.

Dan 3:40

Sicut in holocáustis aríetum et taurórum, et sicut in mílibus agnórum pínguium: sic fiat sacrifícium nostrum in conspéctu tuo hódie, ut pláceat tibi: quia non est confúsio confidéntibus in te, Dómine.

Dan 3:40

As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, so let our sacrifice be in Your presence today, that it may please You; for those who trust in You cannot be put to shame, O Lord.

SecretSecreta

O God, You Who have given us in one perfect sacrifice the fulfillment of the various sacrifices made under the Old Law, accept these sacrificial gifts offered You by Your devoted servants, and make them holy as You did the gifts of Abel, so that what each one of us has offered in praise of Your majesty may profit for the salvation of all.
