First ReadingIsaiah 2:1-5

From the Book of Isaiah

1This is what Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills;and all nations shall flow to it.3Many peoples shall go and say,“Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord,to the house of the God of Jacob;and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.”For the law shall go out of Zion, and the Lord’s word from Jerusalem.4He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks.Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.5House of Jacob, come, and let’s walk in the light of the Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 122:1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9

1I was glad when they said to me,“Let’s go to the Lord’s house!”2Our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem!

3Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together,4where the tribes go up, even the Lord’s tribes,

4according to an ordinance for Israel,to give thanks to the Lord’s name.5For there are set thrones for judgment, the thrones of David’s house.

6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper.7Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces.

8For my brothers’ and companions’ sakes,I will now say, “Peace be within you.”9For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,I will seek your good.

Second ReadingRomans 13:11-14

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

11Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us thanwhen we first believed.12The night is far gone, and the day is near.Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.13Let’s walk properly, as in the day;not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

GospelMatthew 24:37-44

From the Gospel according to Matthew

37As the days of Noah were,so will the coming of the Son of Man be.38For as in those dayswhich were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ship,39and they didn’t know until the flood cameand took them all away,so will the coming of the Son of Man be.40Then two men will be in the field:one will be taken and one will be left.41Two women will be grinding at the mill:one will be taken and one will be left.42Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.43But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming,he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.44Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don’t expect, the Son of Man will come.
