First ReadingDeuteronomy 6:4-13

From the Book of Deuteronomy

4Hear, Israel:The Lord is our God.The Lord is one.5You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.6These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart;7and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way,and when you lie down, and when you rise up.8You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.9You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.

10It shall be,when the Lord your God brings you into the landwhich he swore to your fathers,to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities which you didn’t build,11and houses full of all good things which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didn’t plant, and you shall eat and be full;12then beware lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.13You shall fear the Lord your God;and you shall serve him, and shall swear by his name.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 18:2-3a, 3bc-4, 47 and 51

2I love you, Lord, my strength.3The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;

3my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.4I call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;and I am saved from my enemies.

47The Lord lives! Blessed be my rock.Exalted be the God of my salvation,51He gives great deliverance to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed,to David and to his offspring, forever more.

GospelMatthew 17:14-20

From the Gospel according to Matthew

14When they came to the multitude,a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying,15“Lord, have mercy on my son,for he is epileptic and suffers grievously;for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.16So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

17Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you?How long will I bear with you?Bring him here to me.”18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it went out of him,and the boy was cured from that hour.

19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”

20He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you,if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain,‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move;and nothing will be impossible for you.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
