First Reading1 Kings 12:26-32; 13:33-34

From the First Book of Kings

26Jeroboam said in his heart,“Now the kingdom will return to David’s house.27If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the Lord’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah;and they will kill me,and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”28So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold;and he said to them,“It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem.Look and behold your gods,Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”29He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.30This thing became a sin,for the people wenteven as far as Dan to worship before the one there.31He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.32Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month,on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

some verses are not read33After this thing, Jeroboam didn’t turn from his evil way,but again made priests of the high places from among all the people.Whoever wanted to,he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.34This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it offand to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 106:6-7ab, 19-20, 21-22

6We have sinned with our fathers. We have committed iniquity. We have done wickedly.7Our fathers didn’t understand your wonders in Egypt. They didn’t remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses, but were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

19They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped a molten image.20Thus they exchanged their gloryfor an image of a bull that eats grass.

21They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,22wondrous works in the land of Ham,and awesome things by the Red Sea.

GospelMark 8:1-10

From the Gospel according to Mark

1In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat,Jesus called his disciples to himself and said to them,2“I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three daysand have nothing to eat.3If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way,for some of them have come a long way.”

4His disciples answered him,“From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”

5He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”

They said, “Seven.”

6He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves.Having given thanks,he broke them and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.7They also had a few small fish.Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.8They ate and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken piecesthat were left over.9Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.

10Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciplesand came into the region of Dalmanutha.

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
