First ReadingAmos 9:11-15

From the Book of Amos

11In that day I will raise up the tent of Davidwho is fallen and close up its breaches, and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old,12that they may possess the remnant of Edomand all the nations who are called by my name,”says the Lord who does this.

13“Behold, the days come,” says the Lord,“that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the one treading grapes him who sows seed;and sweet wine will drip from the mountains, and flow from the hills.14I will bring my people Israel back from captivity, and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them;and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them. They shall also make gardens, and eat their fruit.15I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,”says the Lord your God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 85:9 and 10, 11-12, 13-14

9I will hear what God, the Lord, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his saints;but let them not turn again to folly.10Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

11Mercy and truth meet together.Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.12Truth springs out of the earth.Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

13Yes, the Lord will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.14Righteousness goes before him,and prepares the way for his steps.

GospelMatthew 9:14-17

From the Gospel according to Matthew

14Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

15Jesus said to them,“Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will comewhen the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.16No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment;for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.17Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins,or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Readings in the World English Bible (Catholic Edition), chosen by the Lectionary for Mass. The prayers of the Mass are in the Roman Missal.

Eccli 24:14-16

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Ecclus 24:14-16

Before all ages, in the beginning, He created me, and through all ages I shall not cease to be. In the holy Tent I ministered before Him, and in Sion I fixed my abode. Thus in the chosen city He has given me rest, in Jerusalem is my domain. I have struck root among the glorious people, in the portion of my God, His heritage, and my abode is in the full assembly of Saints.

Blessed Virgin

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should praise and bless, and proclaim Thee, in the veneratióne of the Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin: Who also conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, and the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:

CommunionCommunio

Beáta víscera Maríæ Vírginis, quæ portavérunt ætérni Patris Fílium.

Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary, which bore the Son of the eternal Father.

Having received the aids conducive to our salvation, O Lord, we beseech You, grant that we may everywhere be protected by the patronage of blessed Mary, ever Virgin, in veneration of whom we have made these offerings to Your Majesty.
