First ReadingJeremiah 31:31-34

From the Book of Jeremiah

31“Behold, the days come,”says the Lord, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,32not according to the covenantthat I made with their fathers in the daythat I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, although I was a husband to them,” says the Lord.33“But this is the covenantthat I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord:

“I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart.I will be their God,and they shall be my people.34They will no longer each teach his neighbor, and every man teach his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord;’for they will all know me,from their least to their greatest,” says the Lord,“for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 14-15

3Have mercy on me, God, according to your loving kindness.According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.4Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity.Cleanse me from my sin.

12Create in me a clean heart, O God.Renew a right spirit within me.13Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

14Restore to me the joy of your salvation.Uphold me with a willing spirit.15Then I will teach transgressors your ways.Sinners will be converted to you.

Second ReadingHebrews 5:7-9

From the Letter to the Hebrews

7He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong cryingand tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,8though he was a Son,yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered.9Having been made perfect,he became to all of thosewho obey him the author of eternal salvation,

GospelJohn 12:20-33

From the Gospel according to John

20Now there were certain Greeks among thosewho went up to worship at the feast.21Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying,“Sir, we want to see Jesus.”22Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.

23Jesus answered them,“The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.24Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies,it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.25He who loves his life will lose it.He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.26If anyone serves me, let him follow me.Where I am, there my servant will also be.If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

27“Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say?‘Father, save me from this time’?But I came to this time for this cause.28Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified itand will glorify it again.”

29Therefore the multitude who stood byand heard it said that it had thundered.Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

30Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.31Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”33But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Hebrǽos.

Hebr 9:11-15

Reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews

Heb 9:11-15.

Brethren: When Christ appeared as high priest of the good things to come, He entered once for all through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made by hands - that is, not of this creation, - nor again by virtue of blood of goats and calves, but by virtue of His own blood, into the Holies, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkled ashes of a heifer sanctify the unclean unto the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the Blood of Christ, Who through the Holy Spirit offered Himself unblemished unto God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And this is why He is mediator of a new covenant, that whereas a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions committed under the former covenant, they who have been called may receive eternal inheritance according to the promise, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem.

Joann 8:46-59

In illo témpore: Dicébat Jesus turbis Judæórum: Quis ex vobis árguet me de peccáto?

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 8:46-59.

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds of the Jews: Which of you can convict Me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear is that you are not of God. The Jews therefore in answer said to Him, Are we not right in saying that You are a Samaritan, and have a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. Yet, I do not seek My own glory; there is One Who seeks and Who judges. Amen, amen, I say to you, if anyone keep My word, he will never see death. The Jews therefore said, Now we know that You have a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets, and You say, ‘If anyone keep My word he will never taste death.’ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom do You make Yourself? Jesus answered, If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father Who glorifies Me, of Whom you say that He is your God. And you do not know Him, but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I shall be like you, a liar. But I know Him, and I keep His word. Abraham your father rejoiced that he was to see My day. He saw it and was glad. The Jews therefore said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am. They therefore took up stones to cast at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out from the temple.

Holy Cross

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who didst establish the salvation of mankind on the tree of the Cross; that whence death came, thence also life might arise again, and that he, who overcame by the tree, by the tree also might be overcome: Through Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:
