From the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

19For I through the law died to the law,that I might live to God.20I have been crucified with Christ,and it is no longer I who live,but Christ lives in me.That life which I now live in the flesh,I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself up for me.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11

2I will bless the Lord at all times.His praise will always be in my mouth.3My soul shall boast in the Lord.The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

4Oh magnify the Lord with me.Let’s exalt his name together.5I sought the Lord, and he answered me,and delivered me from all my fears.

6They looked to him, and were radiant.Their faces shall never be covered with shame.7This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,and saved him out of all his troubles.

8The Lord’s angel encamps around those who fear him,and delivers them.9Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

10Oh fear the Lord, you his saints,for there is no lack with those who fear him.11The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger,but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

From the Gospel according to John

1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.2Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away.Every branch that bears fruit,he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.3You are already pruned cleanbecause of the word which I have spoken to you.4Remain in me, and I in you.As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine,so neither can you,unless you remain in me.5I am the vine.You are the branches.He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit,for apart from me you can do nothing.6If a man doesn’t remain in me,he is thrown out as a branch and is withered;and they gather them,throw them into the fire,and they are burned.7If you remain in me,and my words remain in you,you will ask whatever you desire,and it will be done for you.

8“In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;and so you will be my disciples.
