First Reading1 Thessalonians 3:7-13

From the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

7For this cause, brothers,we were comforted over you in all our distressand affliction through your faith.8For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.9For what thanksgiving can we give again to God for you,for all the joy withwhich we rejoice for your sakes before our God,10night and day praying exceedinglythat we may see your faceand may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

11Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.12May the Lord make you to increaseand abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,13to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our Godand Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 90:3-5a, 12-13, 14 and 17

3You turn man to destruction, saying,“Return, you children of men.”4For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night.5You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass.

12So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.13Relent, Lord! How long?Have compassion on your servants!

14Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.17Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us.Establish the work of our hands for us.Yes, establish the work of our hands.

GospelMatthew 24:42-51

From the Gospel according to Matthew

42Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.43But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming,he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.44Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don’t expect, the Son of Man will come.

45“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household,to give them their food in due season?46Blessed is that servantwhom his lord finds doing so when he comes.47Most certainly I tell youthat he will set him over all that he has.48But if that evil servant should say in his heart,‘My lord is delaying his coming,’49and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with the drunkards,50the lord of that servant will come in a daywhen he doesn’t expect itand in an hour when he doesn’t know it,51and will cut him in piecesand appoint his portion with the hypocrites. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
