First ReadingRomans 8:12-17

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

12So then, brothers,we are debtors, not to the flesh,to live after the flesh.13For if you live after the flesh, you must die;but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,these are children of God.15For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption,by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

16The Spirit himself testifies with our spiritthat we are children of God;17and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 68:2 and 4, 6-7ab, 20-21

2Let God arise!Let his enemies be scattered!Let them who hate him also flee before him.4But let the righteous be glad.Let them rejoice before God.Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

6A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows,is God in his holy habitation.7God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

20Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our salvation.21God is to us a God of deliverance. To GOD, the Lord, belongs escape from death.

GospelLuke 13:10-17

From the Gospel according to Luke

10He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day.11Behold, there was a womanwho had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. She was bent overand could in no way straighten herself up.12When Jesus saw her,he called her and said to her,“Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.”13He laid his hands on her,and immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.

14The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude,“There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!”

15Therefore the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites!Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbathand lead him away to water?16Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abrahamwhom Satan had bound eighteen long years,be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”

17As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed;and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious thingsthat were done by him.

EpistleLectio

Léctio libri Tobíæ

Tob 12:7-15

Lesson from the book of Tobias

Tob 12:7-15

In those days, the Angel Raphael said to Tobias: It is good to hide the secret of a king: but honorable to reveal and confess the works of God. Prayer is good with fasting and alms, more than to lay up treasures of gold: for alms delivers from death, and the same is that which purges away sins, and makes to find mercy and life everlasting. But they who commit sin and iniquity are enemies to their own soul. I discover then the truth to you, and I will not hide the secret from you. When you prayed with tears, and buried the dead, and left your dinner, and hid the dead by day in your house, and buried them by night, I offered your prayer to the Lord. And because you were acceptable to God, it was necessary that temptation should prove you. And now the Lord has sent me to heal you, and to deliver Sara your son’s wife from the devil. For I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 5:1-4

In illo témpore: Erat dies festus Judæórum, et ascéndit Jesus Jerosólymam. Est autem Jerosólymis Probática piscína, quæ cognominátur hebráice Bethsaida, quinque pórticus habens. In his jacébat multitúdo magna languéntium, cæcórum, claudórum, aridórum exspectántium aquæ motum. Angelus autem Dómini descendébat secúndum tempus in piscínam, et movebátur aqua. Et, qui prior descendísset in piscínam post motiónem aquæ, sanus fiebat, a quacúmque detinebátur infirmitáte.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 5:1-4

At that time, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem, by the Sheepgate, a pool called in Hebrew Bethsaida, having five porticoes. In these were lying a great multitude of the sick, blind, lame, and those with shriveled limbs, waiting for the moving of the water. For an Angel of the Lord used to come down at certain times into the pool, and the water was troubled. And the first to go down into the pool after the troubling of the water was cured of whatever infirmity he had.
