First ReadingRomans 2:1-11

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

1Therefore you are without excuse,O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things.2We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against thosewho practice such things.3Do you think this,O man who judges those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?4Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?5But according to your hardnessand unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,6who “will pay back to everyone according to their works:”7to those who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life;8but to those who are self-seekingand don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath, indignation,9oppression, and anguish on every soul of man who does evil,to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

10But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who does good,to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.11For there is no partiality with God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 62:2-3, 6-7, 9

2My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.3He alone is my rock, my salvation, and my fortress.I will never be greatly shaken.

6My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him.7He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress.I will not be shaken.

9Trust in him at all times, you people.Pour out your heart before him.God is a refuge for us.

GospelLuke 11:42-46

From the Gospel according to Luke

42But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God’s love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.43Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagoguesand the greetings in the marketplaces.44Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don’t know it.”

45One of the lawyers answered him,“Teacher, in saying this you insult us also.”

46He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios

Ephes 5:15-21

Subjecti ínvicem in timóre Christi.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 5:15-21

Brethren: See to it that you walk with care: not as unwise but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not become foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, for in that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 4:46-53

In illo témpore: Erat quidam régulus, cujus fílius infirmabátur Caphárnaum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 4:46-53

At that time, there was a certain royal official whose son was lying sick at Capharnaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and besought Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you do not believe. The royal official said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said to him, Go your way, your son lives. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and departed. But even as he was now going down, his servants met him and brought word saying that his son lived. He asked of them therefore the hour in which he had got better. And they told him, Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him. The father knew then that it was at that very hour in which Jesus had said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole household.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
