First ReadingActs 5:27-33

From the Acts of the Apostles

27When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,28saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name?Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”

29But Peter and the apostles answered,“We must obey God rather than men.30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree.31God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior,to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.32We are his witnesses of these things;and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

33But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2 and 9, 17-18, 19-20

2I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.9Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

17The Lord’s face is against those who do evil,to cut off their memory from the earth.18The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

19The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.20Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

GospelJohn 3:31-36

From the Gospel according to John

31“He who comes from above is above all.He who is from the earth belongs to the earthand speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.32What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies;and no one receives his witness.33He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.34For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God;for God gives the Spirit without measure.35The Father loves the Son,and has given all things into his hand.36One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
