First ReadingHebrews 8:6-13

From the Letter to the Hebrews

6But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry,by as much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as law.

7For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.8For finding fault with them, he said,

“Behold, the days are coming”, says the Lord,“that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;9not according to the covenant that I made with their fathersin the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt;for they didn’t continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them,” says the Lord.10“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israelafter those days,” says the Lord:“I will put my laws into their mind;I will also write them on their heart.I will be their God,and they will be my people.11They will not teach every man his fellow citizenand every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’for all will know me,from their least to their greatest.12For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness.I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.”

13In that he says, “A new covenant”,he has made the first obsolete. But that which is becoming obsoleteand grows aged is near to vanishing away.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 85:8 and 10, 11-12, 13-14

8Show us your loving kindness, Lord.Grant us your salvation.10Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

11Mercy and truth meet together.Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.12Truth springs out of the earth.Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

13Yes, the Lord will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.14Righteousness goes before him,and prepares the way for his steps.

GospelMark 3:13-19

From the Gospel according to Mark

13He went up into the mountainand called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him.14He appointed twelve, that they might be with him,and that he might send them out to preach15and to have authority to heal sicknessesand to cast out demons:16Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);17James the son of Zebedee;and John, the brother of James,(whom he called Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder);18Andrew; Philip;Bartholomew;Matthew; Thomas;James, the son of Alphaeus;Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot;19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Then he came into a house.

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Ps 91:13; 91:14

Ps 91:3

Ja 1:12

Beátus vir, qui suffert tentatiónem: quóniam, cum probátus fúerit, accípiet corónam vitæ. Allelúja.

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Ps 91:3

℣.To proclaim Your kindness at dawn and Your faithfulness throughout the night. Alleluia, alleluia.

Jas 1:12

℣.Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been tried, he will receive the crown of life. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.
