First Reading1 Timothy 4:12-16

From the First Letter of Paul to Timothy

12Let no man despise your youth;but be an example to those who believe,in word, in your way of life,in love, in spirit,in faith, and in purity.13Until I come, pay attention to reading,to exhortation, and to teaching.14Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the elders.15Be diligent in these things.Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.16Pay attention to yourself and to your teaching.Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourselfand those who hear you.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 111:7-8, 9, 10

7The works of his hands are truth and justice. All his precepts are sure.8They are established forever and ever. They are done in truth and uprightness.

9He has sent redemption to his people. He has ordained his covenant forever. His name is holy and awesome!

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

GospelLuke 7:36-50

From the Gospel according to Luke

36One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him.He entered into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table.37Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knewthat he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster jar of ointment.38Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.39Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it,he said to himself,“This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived whoand what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

40Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”

He said, “Teacher, say on.”

41“A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.42When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both.Which of them therefore will love him most?”

43Simon answered, “He,I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.”

He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”44Turning to the woman,he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.45You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in,has not ceased to kiss my feet.46You didn’t anoint my head with oil,but she has anointed my feet with ointment.47Therefore I tell you,her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”48He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves,“Who is this who even forgives sins?”

50He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you.Go in peace.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Brethren: If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. Let us not become desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, even if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual instruct such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let everyone test his own work, and so he will have glory in himself only, and not in comparison with another. For each one will bear his own burden. And let him who is instructed in the word share all good things with his teacher. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what a man sows in the flesh, from the flesh also will reap corruption. But he who sows in the spirit, from the spirit will reap life everlasting. And in doing good let us not grow tired; for in due time we shall reap if we do not relax. Therefore, while we have time, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

Ps 39:2-4

I have waited, waited for the Lord, and He stooped toward me, and heard my cry. And He put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
