First ReadingRevelation 3:1-6, 14-22

From the Book of Revelation

1“And to the angel of the assembly in Sardis write:

“He who has the seven Spirits of Godand the seven stars says these things:

“I know your works, that you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.2Wake up and strengthen the things that remain, which you were about to throw away, for I have found no works of yours perfected before my God.3Remember therefore how you have received and heard.Keep it and repent. If therefore you won’t watch,I will come as a thief, and you won’t know what hour I will come upon you.4Nevertheless you have a few names in Sardisthat didn’t defile their garments. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.5He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.6He who has an ear,let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

verses 7–13 are not read14“To the angel of the assembly in Laodicea write:

“The Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of God’s creation, says these things:

15“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot.I wish you were cold or hot.16So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold,I will vomit you out of my mouth.17Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing,’and don’t know that you are the wretched one, miserable, poor, blind, and naked;18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich;and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed;and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.19As many as I love, I reprove and chasten.Be zealous therefore, and repent.20Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to himand will dine with him, and he with me.21He who overcomes, I will give to him to sit down with me on my throne,as I also overcameand sat down with my Father on his throne.22He who has an ear,let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 15:2-3a, 3bc-4ab, 5

2He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;3he who doesn’t slander with his tongue,

3nor does evil to his friend,nor casts slurs against his fellow man;4in whose eyes a vile man is despised,but who honors those who fear the Lord;he who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn’t change;

5he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

GospelLuke 19:1-10

From the Gospel according to Luke

1He entered and was passing through Jericho.2There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.3He was trying to see who Jesus was,and couldn’t because of the crowd, because he was short.4He ran on aheadand climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him,for he was going to pass that way.5When Jesus came to the place,he looked up and saw him,and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”6He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully.7When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.”

8Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,“Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor.If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone,I restore four times as much.”

9Jesus said to him,“Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.10For the Son of Man came to seekand to save that which was lost.”

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
