First Reading1 Timothy 6:2c-12

From the First Letter of Paul to Timothy

2Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather let them serve them, because thosewho partake of the benefit are believing and beloved.Teach and exhort these things.

3If anyone teaches a different doctrineand doesn’t consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,4he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, insulting, evil suspicions,5constant friction of people of corrupt mindsand destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.Withdraw yourself from such.

6But godliness with contentment is great gain.7For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out.8But having food and clothing,we will be content with that.9But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation,a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11But you, man of God,flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.12Fight the good fight of faith.Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 49:6-7, 8-10, 17-18, 19-20

6Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?7Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches—

8none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him.9For the redemption of their life is costly,no payment is ever enough,10that he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption.

17Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;18for when he dies he will carry nothing away. His glory won’t descend after him.

19Though while he lived he blessed his soul—and men praise you when you do well for yourself—20he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 13:1-8

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor 13:1-8

Brethren: If I should speak with tongues of men and of angels, but do not have charity, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, yet do not have charity, I am nothing. And if I distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, yet do not have charity, it profits me nothing. Charity is patient, is kind; charity does not envy, is not pretentious, is not puffed up, is not ambitious, is not self-seeking, is not provoked; thinks no evil, does not rejoice over wickedness, but rejoices with the truth; bears with all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Charity never fails, whereas prophecies will disappear, and tongues will cease, and knowledge will be destroyed.

Eccle 11:13.

Ps 20:4-5

O Lord, You welcomed him with goodly blessings, You placed on his head a crown of pure gold.

℣.He asked life of You: You gave him length of days forever and ever. Alleluia, alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:1-14

At ille obmútuit. Tunc dixit rex minístris: Ligátis mánibus et pédibus ejus, míttite eum in ténebras exterióres: ibi erit fletus et stridor déntium. Multi enim sunt vocáti, pauci vero elécti.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:1-14

At that time, Jesus spoke to the chief priests and the Pharisees in parables, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a king who made a marriage feast for his son. And he sent his servants to call in those invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come. Again he sent out other servants, saying, “Tell those who are invited, behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatlings are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.” But they made light of it, and went off, one to his farm, and another to his business; and the rest laid hold of his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. But when the king heard of it, he was angry; and he sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. Then he said to his servants, “The marriage feast indeed is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy; go therefore to the crossroads, and invite to the marriage feast whomever you shall find.” And his servants went out into the roads, and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; and the marriage feast was filled with guests. Now the king went in to see the guests, and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment. And he said to him, “Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?” But he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, “Bind his hands and feet and cast him forth into the darkness outside, where there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.” For many are called, but few are chosen.
