First ReadingJeremiah 20:7-9

From the Book of Jeremiah

7Lord, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I, and have prevailed.I have become a laughingstock all day.Everyone mocks me.8For as often as I speak, I cry out;I cry, “Violence and destruction!”because the Lord’s word has been made a reproach to me,and a derision, all day.9If I say that I will not make mention of him,or speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones.I am weary with holding it in.I can’t.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9

2God, you are my God.I will earnestly seek you.My soul thirsts for you.My flesh longs for you,in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.

3So I have seen you in the sanctuary, watching your power and your glory.4Because your loving kindness is better than life,my lips shall praise you.

5So I will bless you while I live.I will lift up my hands in your name.6My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food.My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,

8For you have been my help.I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.9My soul stays close to you.Your right hand holds me up.

Second ReadingRomans 12:1-2

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

1Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God,to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,which is your spiritual service.2Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,so that you may prove what is the good,well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

GospelMatthew 16:21-27

From the Gospel according to Matthew

21From that time, Jesus began to show his disciplesthat he must go to Jerusalemand suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you.”

23But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me,for you are not setting your mind on the things of God,but on the things of men.”

24Then Jesus said to his disciples,“If anyone desires to come after me,let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.25For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole worldand forfeits his life?Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?27For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will give to everyone according to his deeds.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:16-24

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:16-24

Brethren: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, jealousies, anger, quarrels, factions, parties, envies, murders, drunkenness, carousings, and suchlike. And concerning these I warn you, as I have warned you, that they who do such things will not attain the kingdom of God. But of the fruit of the Spirit is: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such things there is no law. And they who belong to Christ have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 6:24-33

Scit enim Pater vester, quia his ómnibus indigétis. Quǽrite ergo primum regnum Dei et justítiam ejus: et hæc ómnia adjiciéntur vobis.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 6:24-33

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: No man serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will stand by the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you shall eat; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life a greater thing than the food, and the body than the clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you of much more value than they? But which of you by being anxious about it can add to his stature a single cubit? And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider how the lilies of the field grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of those. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which flourishes today but tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more you, O you of little faith! Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink?’ or, ‘What are we to put on?’ - for after all these things the Gentiles seek; - for your Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His justice, and all these things shall be given you besides.

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
