First Reading1 Timothy 1:15-17

From the First Letter of Paul to Timothy

15The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,of whom I am chief.16However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience for an example of thosewho were going to believe in him for eternal life.17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible,to God who alone is wise,be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 113:1b-2, 3-4, 5 and 6-7

1Praise the Lord!Praise, you servants of the Lord, praise the Lord’s name.2Blessed be the Lord’s name, from this time forward and forever more.

3From the rising of the sun to its going down, the Lord’s name is to be praised.4The Lord is high above all nations, his glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the Lord, our God,who has his seat on high,6who stoops down to see in heaven and on the earth?7He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the needy from the ash heap,

GospelLuke 6:43-49

From the Gospel according to Luke

43“For there is no good tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces good fruit.44For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don’t gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.45The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.

46“Why do you call me,‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say?47Everyone who comes to me,and hears my words and does them,I will show you who he is like.48He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it,because it was founded on the rock.49But he who hears and doesn’t do,is like a manwho built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell;and the ruin of that house was great.”
