First ReadingRevelation 22:1-7

From the Book of Revelation

1He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,2in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and onthat was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.3There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it,and his servants will serve him.4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.5There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light;for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.

6He said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord God of the spirits of the prophets sent his angel to show to his bondservants the thingswhich must happen soon.”

7“Behold, I am coming soon!Blessed is hewho keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 95:1-2, 3-5, 6-7ab

1Oh come, let’s sing to the Lord.Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation!2Let’s come before his presence with thanksgiving.Let’s extol him with songs!

3For the Lord is a great God,a great King above all gods.4In his hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the mountains are also his.5The sea is his, and he made it.His hands formed the dry land.

6Oh come, let’s worship and bow down.Let’s kneel before the Lord, our Maker,7for he is our God.We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care.Today, oh that you would hear his voice!

GospelLuke 21:34-36

From the Gospel according to Luke

34“So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.35For it will come like a snare on all thosewho dwell on the surface of all the earth.36Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Readings in the World English Bible (Catholic Edition), chosen by the Lectionary for Mass. The prayers of the Mass are in the Roman Missal.

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 51:13-17

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 51:13-17.

O Lord, my God, You have exalted my dwelling place upon the earth, and I have prayed for death to pass away. I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, that He would not abandon me in the day of my trouble, and in the time of the proud without help. I will ever praise Your name, and will praise it with thanksgiving; and my prayer was heard. And You saved me from destruction, and delivered me from the evil time. For this reason I thank You and I praise You, O Lord, our God.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
