First ReadingRomans 7:18-25a

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

18For I know that in me,that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me,but I don’t find it doing that which is good.19For the good which I desire, I don’t do;but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.20But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it,but sin which dwells in me.21I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.22For I delight in God’s law after the inward person,23but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sinwhich is in my members.24What a wretched man I am!Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?25I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord!So then with the mind,I myself serve God’s law,but with the flesh, sin’s law.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:66, 68, 76, 77, 93, 94

66Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

68You are good, and do good.Teach me your statutes.

76Please let your loving kindness be for my comfort, according to your word to your servant.

77Let your tender mercies come to me, that I may live;for your law is my delight.

93I will never forget your precepts, for with them, you have revived me.

94I am yours.Save me, for I have sought your precepts.

GospelLuke 12:54-59

From the Gospel according to Luke

54He said to the multitudes also,“When you see a cloud rising from the west, immediately you say,‘A shower is coming,’and so it happens.55When a south wind blows, you say, ‘There will be a scorching heat,’ and it happens.56You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky,but how is it that you don’t interpret this time?

57“Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?58For when you are going with your adversary before the magistrate, try diligently on the way to be released from him, lest perhaps he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.59I tell you, you will by no means get out of there until you have paid the very last penny.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio libri Tobíæ

Tob 12:7-15

Lesson from the book of Tobias

Tob 12:7-15

In those days, the Angel Raphael said to Tobias: It is good to hide the secret of a king: but honorable to reveal and confess the works of God. Prayer is good with fasting and alms, more than to lay up treasures of gold: for alms delivers from death, and the same is that which purges away sins, and makes to find mercy and life everlasting. But they who commit sin and iniquity are enemies to their own soul. I discover then the truth to you, and I will not hide the secret from you. When you prayed with tears, and buried the dead, and left your dinner, and hid the dead by day in your house, and buried them by night, I offered your prayer to the Lord. And because you were acceptable to God, it was necessary that temptation should prove you. And now the Lord has sent me to heal you, and to deliver Sara your son’s wife from the devil. For I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 5:1-4

In his jacébat multitúdo magna languéntium, cæcórum, claudórum, aridórum exspectántium aquæ motum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 5:1-4

At that time, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem, by the Sheepgate, a pool called in Hebrew Bethsaida, having five porticoes. In these were lying a great multitude of the sick, blind, lame, and those with shriveled limbs, waiting for the moving of the water. For an Angel of the Lord used to come down at certain times into the pool, and the water was troubled. And the first to go down into the pool after the troubling of the water was cured of whatever infirmity he had.
