First ReadingIsaiah 30:19-21, 23-26

From the Book of Isaiah

19For the people will dwell in Zion at Jerusalem. You will weep no more.He will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When he hears you, he will answer you.20Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversityand the water of affliction, yet your teachers won’t be hidden any more, but your eyes will see your teachers;21and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way.Walk in it.”

verse 22 is not read23He will give the rain for your seed, with which you will sow the ground;and bread of the increase of the ground will be rich and plentiful. In that day, your livestock will feed in large pastures.24The oxen likewise and the young donkeysthat till the ground will eat savory feed, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork.25There will be brooksand streams of water on every lofty mountainand on every high hill in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.26Moreover the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun,and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days,in the day that the Lord binds up the fracture of his people, and heals the wound they were struck with.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 147:1-2, 3-4, 5-6

1Praise the Lord, for it is good to sing praises to our God;for it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.2The Lord builds up Jerusalem. He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

3He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.4He counts the number of the stars. He calls them all by their names.

5Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.6The Lord upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground.

GospelMatthew 9:35—10:1, 5a, 6-8

From the Gospel according to Matthew

35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagoguesand preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every diseaseand every sickness among the people.36But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion for thembecause they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few.38Pray thereforethat the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

1He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits,to cast them out,and to heal every disease and every sickness.

verses 2–4 are not read5Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, saying, “Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans.6Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.7As you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons.Freely you received, so freely give.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Hebrǽos

Hebr 13:7-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews

Heb 13:7-17

Brethren: Remember your superiors, who spoke to you the word of God. Consider how they ended their lives, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and today, yes, and forever. Do not be led away by various and strange doctrines. For it is good to make steadfast the heart by grace, not by foods, in which those who walked found no profit. We have an altar, from which they have no right to eat who serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the Holies by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp; and so Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people by His Blood, suffered outside the gate. Let us therefore go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach; for here we have no permanent city, but we seek for the city that is to come. Through Him, therefore, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise always to God, that is, fruit of lips praising His name. And do not forget kindness and charity, for by such sacrifices God’s favor is obtained. Obey your superiors and be subject to them, for they keep watch as having to render an account of your souls.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:14-23

Ait illi dóminus ejus: Euge, serve bone et fidélis, quia super pauca fuísti fidélis, super multa te constítuam: intra in gáudium dómini tui.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:14-23

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: A man going abroad, called his servants and handed over his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his particular ability, and then he went on his journey. And he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more. In like manner, he who had received the two gained two more. But he who had received the one went away and dug in the earth and hid his master’s money. Then after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Master, you handed over to me five talents; behold, I have gained five others in addition.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; because you have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had received the two talents came, and said, ‘Master, you handed over to me two talents; behold, I have gained two more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; because you have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master.’

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

Once, by My holiness, have I sworn; his posterity shall continue forever; and his throne shall be like the sun before Me; like the moon, which remains forever, a faithful witness in the sky.
