The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Solemnity · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle B · Psalter Week 4

First ReadingExodus 24:3-8

From the Book of Exodus

3Moses came and told the people all the Lord’s words, and all the ordinances;and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the wordswhich the Lord has spoken will we do.”

4Moses wrote all the Lord’s words, then rose up early in the morningand built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.5He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offeringsand sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to the Lord.6Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.7He took the book of the covenantand read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do allthat the Lord has said, and be obedient.”

8Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 116:12-13, 15-16, 17-18

12What will I give to the Lord for all his benefits toward me?13I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the Lord’s name.

15Precious in the Lord’s sight is the death of his saints.16Lord, truly I am your servant.I am your servant, the son of your servant girl. You have freed me from my chains.

17I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on the Lord’s name.18I will pay my vows to the Lord, yes, in the presence of all his people,

Second ReadingHebrews 9:11-15

From the Letter to the Hebrews

11But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,12nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption.13For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling thosewho have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh,14how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God,cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?15For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressionsthat were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

GospelMark 14:12-16, 22-26

From the Gospel according to Mark

12On the first day of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the Passover, his disciples asked him,“Where do you want us to go and preparethat you may eat the Passover?”

13He sent two of his disciples and said to them,“Go into the city, and there a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him,14and wherever he enters in,tell the master of the house,‘The Teacher says,“Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’15He will himself show you a large upper room furnished and ready.Get ready for us there.”

16His disciples went out,and came into the city, and found things as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

verses 17–21 are not read22As they were eating,Jesus took bread, and when he had blessed it,he broke it and gave to them, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body.”

23He took the cup, andwhen he had given thanks, he gave to them. They all drank of it.24He said to them, “This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many.25Most certainly I tell you,I will no more drink of the fruit of the vine untilthat day when I drink it anew in God’s Kingdom.”26When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Joánnis Apóstoli

1 John 3:13-18

Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle

1 John 3:13-18.

Beloved: Do not be surprised if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. In this we have come to know His love, that He laid down His life for us; and we likewise ought to lay down our life for the brethren. He who has the goods of this world and sees his brother in need and closes his heart to him, how does the love of God abide in him? My dear children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 14:16-24

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 14:16-24.

At that time, Jesus spoke to the Pharisees this parable: A certain man gave a great supper, and he invited many. And he sent his servant at supper time to tell those invited to come, for everything is now ready. And they all with one accord began to excuse themselves. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a farm, and I must go out and see it; I pray you hold me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am on my way to try them; I pray you hold me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ And the servant returned, and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house was angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the crippled, and the blind, and the lame.’ And the servant said, ‘Sir, your order has been carried out, and still there is room.’ Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and make them come in, so that my house may be filled. For I tell you that none of those who were invited shall taste of my supper.’

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
