First ReadingIsaiah 1:10-17

From the Book of Isaiah

10Hear the Lord’s word, you rulers of Sodom!Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!11“What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?”, says the Lord.“I have had enough of the burnt offerings of ramsand the fat of fed animals.I don’t delight in the blood of bulls,or of lambs,or of male goats.12When you come to appear before me,who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?13Bring no more vain offerings.Incense is an abomination to me.New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations—I can’t stand evil assemblies.14My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me.I am weary of bearing them.15When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you.Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear.Your hands are full of blood.16Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean.Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes.Cease to do evil.17Learn to do well.Seek justice.Relieve the oppressed.Defend the fatherless.Plead for the widow.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 50:8-9, 16bc-17, 21, 23

8I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.Your burnt offerings are continually before me.9I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens.

16But to the wicked God says,“What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,17since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?

21You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you.I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.

23Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me,and prepares his way so that I will show God’s salvation to him.”

GospelMatthew 10:34—11:1

From the Gospel according to Matthew

34“Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth.I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword.35For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.36A man’s foes will be those of his own household.37He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me;and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.38He who doesn’t take his crossand follow after me isn’t worthy of me.39He who seeks his life will lose it;and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

40“He who receives you receives me,and he who receives me receives him who sent me.41He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.42Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you,he will in no way lose his reward.”

1When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples,he departed from there to teachand preach in their cities.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:19-23

Quem ergo fructum habuístis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubéscitis? Nam finis illórum mors est. Nunc vero liberáti a peccáto, servi autem facti Deo, habétis fructum vestrum in sanctificatiónem, finem vero vitam ætérnam. Stipéndia enim peccáti mors. Grátia autem Dei vita ætérna, in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:19-23

Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now set free from sin and become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 7:15-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 7:15-21

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven.

Dan 3:40

Sicut in holocáustis aríetum et taurórum, et sicut in mílibus agnórum pínguium: sic fiat sacrifícium nostrum in conspéctu tuo hódie, ut pláceat tibi: quia non est confúsio confidéntibus in te, Dómine.

Dan 3:40

As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, so let our sacrifice be in Your presence today, that it may please You; for those who trust in You cannot be put to shame, O Lord.

O God, You Who have given us in one perfect sacrifice the fulfillment of the various sacrifices made under the Old Law, accept these sacrificial gifts offered You by Your devoted servants, and make them holy as You did the gifts of Abel, so that what each one of us has offered in praise of Your majesty may profit for the salvation of all.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
