First ReadingJames 1:19-27

From the Letter of James

19So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;20for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.21Therefore, putting away all filthinessand overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer,he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;24for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.25But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

26If anyone among you thinks himself to be religiouswhile he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.27Pure religionand undefiled before our God and Father is this:to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 15:2-3a, 3bc-4ab, 5

2He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;3he who doesn’t slander with his tongue,

3nor does evil to his friend,nor casts slurs against his fellow man;4in whose eyes a vile man is despised,but who honors those who fear the Lord;he who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn’t change;

5he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

GospelMark 8:22-26

From the Gospel according to Mark

22He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to himand begged him to touch him.23He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spat on his eyes, and laid his hands on him,he asked him if he saw anything.

24He looked up, and said,“I see men, but I see them like walking trees.”

25Then again he laid his hands on his eyes.He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.26He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Thessalonicénses

1 Thess 1:2-10

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians

1 Thess. 1:2-10

Brethren: We give thanks to God always for you all, continually making a remembrance of you in our prayers; being mindful before God our Father of your work of faith, and labor, and charity, and your enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. We know, brethren, beloved of God, how you were chosen. For our Gospel was not delivered to you in word only, but in power also, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much fullness, as indeed you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in great tribulation, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became a pattern to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you the word of the Lord has been spread abroad, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has gone forth, so that we need say nothing further. For they themselves report concerning us how we entered among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God, and to await from heaven Jesus, His Son, Whom He raised from the dead, Who has delivered us from the wrath to come.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

Matt 13:31-35

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew

Matt 13:31-35

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to the crowds: The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. This indeed is the smallest of all the seeds; but when it grows up it is larger than any herb and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches. He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and buried in three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened. All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without parables he did not speak to them; that what was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled, I will open My mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
