First Reading1 Corinthians 8:1b-7, 11-13

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1Now concerning things sacrificed to idols:We know that we all have knowledge.Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.2But if anyone thinks that he knows anything,he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.3But anyone who loves God is known by him.

4Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols,we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.5For though there are things that are called “gods”,whether in the heavens or on earth—as there are many “gods” and many “lords”—6yet to us there is one God,the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him;and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.

7However, that knowledge isn’t in all men.But some, with consciousness of an idol until now,eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. verses 8–10 are not read11And through your knowledge,he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.12Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.13Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble,I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’t cause my brother to stumble.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 139:1b-3, 13-14ab, 23-24

1Lord, you have searched me,and you know me.2You know my sitting down and my rising up.You perceive my thoughts from afar.3You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

13For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb.14I will give thanks to you,for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

23Search me, God, and know my heart.Try me, and know my thoughts.24See if there is any wicked way in me,and lead me in the everlasting way.

GospelLuke 6:27-38

From the Gospel according to Luke

27“But I tell you who hear:love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28bless those who curse you,and pray for those who mistreat you.29To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other;and from him who takes away your cloak, don’t withhold your coat also.30Give to everyone who asks you,and don’t ask himwho takes away your goods to give them back again.

31“As you would like people to do to you,do exactly so to them.

32“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?For even sinners love those who love them.33If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?For even sinners do the same.34If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you?Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive back as much.35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back;and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High;for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

36“Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful.37Don’t judge, and you won’t be judged.Don’t condemn, and you won’t be condemned.Set free, and you will be set free.

38“Give, and it will be given to you:good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you.For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 3:4-9

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor. 3:4-9

Brethren: Such is the assurance I have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:23-37

At ille dixit: Qui fecit misericórdiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus: Vade, et tu fac simíliter.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:23-37

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

Exod 32:11 32:13; 32:14

Moses prayed in the sight of the Lord his God and said, Why, O Lord, is Your indignation enkindled against Your people? Let the anger of Your mind cease; remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom You swore to give a land flowing with milk and honey. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which He had spoken of doing against His people.
