First ReadingWisdom 6:12-16

From the Book of Wisdom

12Wisdom is radiant and doesn’t fade away;and is easily seen by those who love her,and found by those who seek her.13She anticipates those who desire her, making herself known.14He who rises up early to seek her won’t have difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates.15For to think upon her is perfection of understanding, and he who watches for her will quickly be free from care;16because she herself goes around, seeking those who are worthy of her,and in their paths she appears to them graciously, and in every purpose she meets them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8

2God, you are my God.I will earnestly seek you.My soul thirsts for you.My flesh longs for you,in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.

3So I have seen you in the sanctuary, watching your power and your glory.4Because your loving kindness is better than life,my lips shall praise you.

5So I will bless you while I live.I will lift up my hands in your name.6My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food.My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,

7when I remember you on my bed,and think about you in the night watches.8For you have been my help.I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.

Second Reading1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

From the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

or 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

13But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep,so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope.14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him thosewho have fallen asleep in Jesus.15For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep.16For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God’s trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,17then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.So we will be with the Lord forever.18Therefore comfort one another with these words.

GospelMatthew 25:1-13

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1“Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virginswho took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.2Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.3Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them,4but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.6But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold! The bridegroom is coming!Come out to meet him!’7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8The foolish said to the wise,‘Give us some of your oil,for our lamps are going out.’9But the wise answered, saying, ‘What if there isn’t enough for us and you?You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’10While they went away to buy,the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.11Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’12But he answered, ‘Most certainly I tell you,I don’t know you.’13Watch therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour inwhich the Son of Man is coming.

Ephes 6:10-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 6:10-17

Brethren: Be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of His power. Put on the armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the Principalities and the Powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness on high. Therefore, take up the armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and stand in all things perfect. Stand, therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breast-plate of justice, and having your feet shod with the readiness of the Gospel of peace, in all things taking up the shield of faith, with which you may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, that is, the word of God.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 18:23-35

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 18:23-35

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king who desired to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun the settlement, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And as he had no means of paying, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. But the servant fell down and besought him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all!’ And moved with compassion, the master of that servant released him, and forgave him the debt. But as that servant went out, he met one of his fellow-servants who owed him a hundred denarii and he laid hold of him, and throttled him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ His fellow-servant therefore fell down and began to entreat him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all.’ But he would not; but went away and cast him into prison until he should pay what was due. His fellow-servants therefore, seeing what had happened, were very much saddened, and they went and informed their master of what had taken place. Then his master called him, and said to him, ‘Wicked servant! I forgave you all the debt, because you entreated me. Should not you also have had pity on your fellow-servant, even as I had pity on you?’ And his master, being angry, handed him over to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. So also My heavenly Father will do to you, if you do not each forgive your brothers from your hearts.

Job 1.1

Job 1.1

There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, simple, and upright, and fearing God, whom Satan besought that he might tempt: and power was given him from the Lord over his possessions and his flesh; and he destroyed all his substance and his children, and wounded his flesh also with a grievous ulcer.

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:

Ps 118:81; 118:84; 118:86

My soul pines for Your salvation; I hope in Your word. When will You do judgment on my persecutors? The wicked persecuted me wrongfully; help me, O Lord my God!
