First ReadingWisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24

From the Book of Wisdom

13because God didn’t make death, neither does he delight when the living perish.14For he created all things that they might have being. The generative powers of the world are wholesome, and there is no poison of destruction in them, nor has Hades royal dominion upon earth;15for righteousness is immortal, some verses are not read23Because God created man for incorruption, and made him an image of his own everlastingness;24but death entered into the world by the envy of the devil, and those who belong to him experience it.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 30:2, 4, 5-6, 11, 12, 13

2I will extol you, Lord, for you have raised me up,and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.

4Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol. You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

5Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of his.Give thanks to his holy name.6For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime.Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

11Hear, Lord, and have mercy on me.Lord, be my helper.”

12You have turned my mourning into dancing for me.You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,

13to the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent.Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Second Reading2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

7But as you abound in everything—in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us—see that you also abound in this grace. verse 8 is not read9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. verses 10–12 are not read13For this is notthat others may be eased and you distressed,14but for equality.Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack, that there may be equality.15As it is written, “Hewho gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

GospelMark 5:21-43

From the Gospel according to Mark

or Mark 5:21-24, 35b-43

21When Jesus had crossed back over in the boat to the other side,a great multitude was gathered to him;and he was by the sea.22Behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue,Jairus by name, came;and seeing him, he fell at his feet23and begged him much, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live.”

24He went with him, and a great multitude followed him,and they pressed upon him on all sides.25A certain womanwho had a discharge of blood for twelve years,26and had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had,and was no better, but rather grew worse,27having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes.28For she said, “If I just touch his clothes,I will be made well.”29Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up,and she felt in her bodythat she was healed of her affliction.

30Immediately Jesus, perceiving in himselfthat the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked,“Who touched my clothes?”

31His disciples said to him,“You see the multitude pressing against you,and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”

32He looked around to see her who had done this thing.33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him,and told him all the truth.

34He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”

35While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler’s house, saying, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?”

36But Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue,“Don’t be afraid, only believe.”37He allowed no one to follow him except Peter,James, and John the brother of James.38He came to the synagogue ruler’s house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing.39When he had entered in,he said to them, “Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep.”

40They ridiculed him.But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him,and went in where the child was lying.41Taking the child by the hand,he said to her, “Talitha cumi!”which means, being interpreted,“Girl, I tell you, get up!”42Immediately the girl rose up and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement.43He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and commandedthat something should be given to her to eat.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ps 9:5; 9:10

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

In illo témpore: Cum turbæ irrúerent in Jesum, ut audírent verbum Dei, et ipse stabat secus stagnum Genésareth. Et vidit duas naves stantes secus stagnum: piscatóres autem descénderant et lavábant rétia. Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
