First Reading2 Corinthians 11:18, 21-30

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

18Seeing that many boast after the flesh, I will also boast. verses 19–20 are not read21To my shame, I speak as though we had been weak.Yet in whatever way anyone is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also.22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the offspring of Abraham? So am I.23Are they servants of Christ?(I speak as one beside himself.)I am more so:in labors more abundantly,in prisons more abundantly,in stripes above measure, and in deaths often.24Five times I received forty stripes minus one from the Jews.25Three times I was beaten with rods.Once I was stoned.Three times I suffered shipwreck.I have been a night and a day in the deep.26I have been in travels often, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from my countrymen, perils from the Gentiles, perils in the city, perils in the wilderness, perils in the sea, perils among false brothers;27in labor and travail,in watchings often,in hunger and thirst,in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness.

28Besides those things that are outside, there is that which presses on me daily:anxiety for all the assemblies.29Who is weak, and I am not weak?Who is caused to stumble, and I don’t burn with indignation?

30If I must boast, I will boast of the thingsthat concern my weakness.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7

2I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.3My soul shall boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

4Oh magnify the Lord with me.Let’s exalt his name together.5I sought the Lord, and he answered me,and delivered me from all my fears.

6They looked to him, and were radiant.Their faces shall never be covered with shame.7This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,and saved him out of all his troubles.

GospelMatthew 6:19-23

From the Gospel according to Matthew

19“Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal;21for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22“The lamp of the body is the eye.If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.23But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:29-40

In his duóbus mandátis univérsa lex pendet et Prophétæ.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:29-40

At that time, Jesus answered and said to the Sadducees, You err because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For at the Resurrection they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be as angels of God in heaven. But as to the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the crowds heard this, they marveled at His teaching. But the Pharisees, hearing that He had silenced the Sadducees, gathered together. And one of them, a doctor of the Law, putting Him to the test, asked Him, Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
