Solemnity · Ordinary Time · Sunday Cycle C · Psalter Week 4

First ReadingGenesis 14:18-20

From the Book of Genesis

18Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.He was priest of God Most High.19He blessed him, and said,“Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth.20Blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

Abram gave him a tenth of all.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 110:1, 2, 3, 4*

1The Lord says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.”

2The Lord will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion.Rule among your enemies.

3Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array.Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth.

4The Lord has sworn, and will not change his mind:“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

Second Reading1 Corinthians 11:23-26

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

23For I received from the Lord thatwhich also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night inwhich he was betrayed took bread.24When he had given thanks,he broke it and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you.Do this in memory of me.”25In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

GospelLuke 9:11b-17

From the Gospel according to Luke

11But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed him.He welcomed them, spoke to them of God’s Kingdom, and he cured those who needed healing.12The day began to wear away;and the twelve came and said to him,“Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villagesand farms and lodge and get food, for we are here in a deserted place.”

13But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.”

They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we should go and buy food for all these people.”14For they were about five thousand men.

He said to his disciples,“Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”15They did so, and made them all sit down.16He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky,he blessed them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.17They ate and were all filled. They gathered up twelve baskets of broken piecesthat were left over.

Léctio Isaíæ Prophétæ

Isa 49:1-3; 49:5-7

Audíte, ínsulæ, et atténdite, pópuli, de longe: Dóminus ab útero vocavit me, de ventre matris meæ recordátus est nóminis mei. Et pósuit os meum quasi gládium acútum: in umbra manus suæ protéxit me, et pósuit me sicut sagíttam eléctam: in pháretra sua abscóndit me.

Lesson from the book of Isaias

Isa 49:1-3, 5-7.

Hear me, O coastlands, listen, O distant peoples. The Lord called me from birth, from my mother’s womb He gave me my name. He made of me a sharp-edged sword and concealed me in the shadow of His arm. He made me a polished arrow, in His quiver He hid me. You are My servant, He said to me, Israel, through whom I show My glory. And now says the Lord Who formed me as His servant from the womb, I will make you a light to the nations, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. When kings shall see you, they shall stand up, and princes shall prostrate themselves because of the Lord, the Holy One of Israel Who has chosen you.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 1:57-68

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 1:57-68

Elizabeth’s time was fulfilled that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified His mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him by his father’s name, Zachary. And his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall be called John. And they said to her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name. And they kept inquiring by signs of his father what he would have him called. And asking for a writing-tablet he wrote the words, John is his name. And they all marveled. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak, blessing God. And fear came on all their neighbors; and all these things were spoken abroad in all the hill country of Judea. And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. And Zachary his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and wrought redemption for His people.
